1 5/8ths BBK's are probally the best bang for the buck. If your going to go shortie then just go unequals, if you want more just go ahead with some longtubes from BBK.

I recomend longtubes, I think they are worth the extra cost even though you will need to get a short H pipe along with it or have the current H pipe cut shorter. I have a set of BBK 1 5/8ths ceramic shorties I got as collateral in a parts trade, they were painted black but otherwise in good shape, if your interested PM me.

Oh yeah, while you are at it, get copper head gaskets or you'll learn like I did.

Short headers are like the ones posted above. Long tube headers are much much longer and the collector is near the transmission. Also if you have an AOD most LT's won't fit without modification. As far as gaskets I use Fel-pro 1415's and no problems here. Copper gaskets aren't worth it IMHO. Yeah they're reuseable but for $60 vs $15 you can replace them a few times.

I got mac unequal shorties & there a really tight squeeze & a bitch to tighten cause there all wound up in like a knot & a problem I found was spark plug wires touching and air conditioner line & the radiator hose line that runs to your exhaust will sit right on it, I had to use some muffler wrap to keep from melting, if I had it to do all over again I would go unequal but the equals do look cool :nice:

I've had Mac 1 5/8 unequal shorties on my previous Mustang as well and I can agree with the consensus that they're a pretty poorly made header. If short tubes are what you're budgeted for, the FRPP headers are second to none in finish and quality. You can't go wrong with them.

The best set of long tubes Ihave ever seen was neither BBK nor Macs. They were Kooks. They’re pricey, but they’re one of the best-constructed headers with the nicest most durable finish I have ever seen. :nice:

I agree with you on that. I went from a set of BBK's to Kooks and the Kooks are about double the price. Uncoated.

I just bolted on a set of 1.75" BBK Ceramic LT's, a BBK OR X pipe, and a Flowmaster American Thunder catback, and could not be happier.

Get the LT's, and be done with it...heck, a 2.5 OR H pipe to fit the LT's is only $119...get the LT's, you won't regret it.
