header to h pipe bolts!

Alright I can't get them damn bolts off. I just sprayed them really good with pb blaster but still no luck. Anyone else have any ideas? I dont have a torch but if i have ot get one i will.

If they have been on a while, most of the time you have to get them glowing hot to get them out.

Soak them several times over a day or 2, then if you have access to an impact, electric or air, it will really help.

Put some anti sieze on them when you reassemble, will considerably minimize further such problems later.

Here's something I did with my H pipe that made taking things off and putting back on SO much easier - esp. for changing the starter.

well i got one down and 3 to go but it cracked. I noticed there not screws and nuts like the back part is. Can i hammer the stud things out or are they connected to the headers? Im going to get a propane torch and hopefully that will work for the other 3. I also soaked them really really good with pb blaster a couple times. Thanks for the replies.

The studs screw in so a hammer won't be your friend on them. Keep soaking with penetrant oil and heat them until you can unscrew them. Can be a major PIA.

A propane torch. You know the ones you can find at the hardware store. Then just heat up the bolts real hot.

Band clamps are awesome; I used one on my Jeep and plan to use them to bolt my new tailpipes on my LX, but you don't have to remove the h-pipe to pull a starter on Mustangs. I suppose you could.

And yes, if you do very much work on vehicles anymore, it's really a good idea to make a "mod" to your garage and spend $200-300 on a good compressor and air tools. They help so much.

just wondering, but how does this work? are we heating the nut so it expands, or does the heat do something else? i assume you try to loosen it when its still redhot?

i ended up having to cut the studs on my 88 hatch get them off, just try soaking them and heating them up with a real torch..lol
