headers and reliability

so while ive heard great things from a performance stand point about headers, ive also heard alot about reliability issues when compared to the stock manifolds. can anybody shed some light on this for me. any advise would be great

For all out longevity, nothing beats a cast iron manifold. Cheap, easy to produce making them perfect for a car designed to last 100,000 miles or more. Headers on the other hand, usually don't make it that far. Welds sometimes fail, the flanges can warp easier then cast iron. Headers tend to be alot closer to the ground, so they can get hit with things in the road and speed bumps can be a problem as well. I had an old set that would hang a bit lower and they hit a few things. My new set tucks up alot nicer as well.

thats exactly the type of stuff ive heard and i dont want to get a set of headers have them last a few years and then need to replace them again due to the problems. especially since my car is a daily driver and sees all types of weather.

Unless your planning on making a lot more power than stock i.e. intake, heads, blower, then the stock manifolds will work. Just replace the mid-pipe and cat-back for a nice sounding daily driver.

thank you guys for the responses. its not like i was planning on getting headers anytime soon (or probably ever lol) but i do like to at least know what the cons are of any decisions i make.

i understand that. i also like to plan way ahead and get prices on parts too.
