Guys,
I have a 96 mustang with 26k on it.
It has been a summer car for the last 7 years.
I have some decent mods (3:55 gears, Superchip Tuner, Pro 5.0, KYB shocks/springs, Pulleys, K&N, TB, Mass Air, Accufab Intake Elbow, Flowmasters, Bassani Xpipe) and want to know if headers would the next sensible mod?
If so, what type is recommended?
I plan on the PI intake/headswap and cams in the near future.

TIA,
Dan

headers would be a very nice addition to your mods list. the only problem with headers are that unless youre rather mechanically inclined and can do the install yourself. otherwise a shop will rape you on the install and the benefits do not offset the cost. actually depending on what headers you decide to get the install cost could be more than the cost of the headers themselves. with that being said i have installed mac headers with zero problems and my car has bbk headers and they went on with no problem. they are also the least expesive of all the header choices.

What kind of gains can I expect with the SLP headers over stock?
For the price and install, I may be better off with a headswap?

I think a headswap kit is around $1,200. LTs with install can be as low as $500 (depending on labor rates and header type) but you will also need a matching mid pipe which can be cheap or if you need cats, quite high.

I had an old MM&FF article where they did an SLP headers swap on a '96 and it picked up some decent power all the way across the board. But pretty much any long tube header is going to net you good gains, so don't just limit your selection to SLP's.
