I recently added a T5 tranny to my 66 coupe. I also swapped my junkyard headers for stock manifolds. I love the transmission, but miss the high end pull I used to have. Clutch cable clearance is the issue. Whis header clears or fits the best? Anyone like heddman shorties?

I have heddman longtubes on my 66 with a 351w. The clutch cable has basically zero room but has been in there a year and hasn't burned up yet (justa stock style fox body cable too)

Yea the Heddmans should fit just fine. Don't know what kit you use but if it's a mustangsteve clutch kit, he states it works like it was made for these headers. Which is probably true because he was probably using heddmans when he made the kit.

I have Heddman long tubes on my 65 coupe with a 302 and a T5, it fits fine. I am also using the stock clutch mechanical arm with the z-bar that connects to the frame. that way i dont have to worry about the clutch cable getting in the way. I am also using a centerforce dual friction clutch and it is not too stiff.

You might want to look into a hydraulic clutch as they leave you with lots more room for headers. Do a search on this forum for JMC hydraulic clutch and you will find lots of info.

I have heddmans on a 351W in my 68, and a JMC Cable kit, and I have no problems at all. My cable has been in for about 6 or 7 years.

I have the K-code manifolds with no clearance problems, but it's a Ron Morris unit that loops around in front of the fuel pump, then back along the oil pan rail. The Mustang Steve setup with the fox cable or the Modern Driveline one loops much farther back and may have interference issues with the #5 or 6 cylinder exhaust manifold or header tubes. IDK. Some headers won't work at all with the T5 bell and any cable clutch because they tuck in too much and want to occupy the same space as where the clutch cable goes through the hole in the bellhousing as it heads back to the clutch fork and access plate.

My car is a 66 with a roller 5.0L with Edelbrock heads, torker 289 intake, dual exhaust and has been lowered 1/2" from stock. It still has the stock style fuel pump, A/C and manual steering.

No mention of what you want to spend, but if you got the coin, FPA headers are hard to beat. I've got the 5/8" to 3/4" long tubes and they are tight up under the body. They don't hang lower than the frame rail. I can use them with power steering w/o droping the power ram. And they fit with my Mustang Steve clutch cable. Real nice headers, but $$$

Got any pic's of your Ron Morris cable clutch in the car. I'm a little confused, from all the cable clutchs i've seen in the classics they come out the firewall just above the M/C. On the Ron Morris site if I read it correctly it sound like the cable come out the firewall under the M/C. Maybe you can shed some light on this. I'm tryin to figure out as well which unit to get so either my tri-y's or some longtubes will clear.

I have hedman longtubes and a t5 with a clutch cable . . .

the problem was the cable would rest on that primary right as it goes through the bellhousing.

I just made a little piece of channel to sit the cable up off the primary.

Will Hooker Comps 6901 (NOT super comps) work with a cable clutch?

I'll try to get pictures up this weekend, both of the routing and where the potential problem areas are. You are correct, the RM cable exits the firewall under the MC through the hole the old clutch rod passed through.

BTW, I looked at the Modern Driveline unit, and although it exits the firewall above the MC, it follows a similar path the RM cable does after that.

Mustang Steve recomended the FPA headers first, then heddman longtubes or Hooker comps. I do like the deep tone I get from the manifolds, but miss the high end HP.
