Headers

First of all you posted links to headers that fit three different applications (71-73 Stang, 79-93 Stang and Econoline vans) Which vehicle and engine do you have? And why the obsession with $300-$400 headers? If I was your Dad, I'd want to spend a bit less, like a price range of $100-200. Lots of good choices out there for that price range, unless you have a big block Stang.

Hey Cobain

does your patriot try-y header on the passenger side of your car make an odd looking turn toward the tranny?

Mine does, it may be for clearance issues at the tranny crossmember, but it still looks kinda weird.

I would get some Hooker 6901s.
They are good headers and the price is middle of the road.
Why rape your pop on the price if you can have good headers without spending a bunch of dough?
Remember that you are going to need to spend on modding the exhaust to work with the new headers.
If you spend that entire wad on just the headers, you are going to be bummed when the other parts you didn't consider nickel and dime you.

mine had to be heated and knocked in due to clearance. the pitman arm did not have clearance.

You know, I keep hearing this from folks.

I had the same issue with a set, however I figured it was because I installed them on a Maverick.
The Maverick uses ever other header that the 65-66 uses, for the most part...
So I figured they would work on a Maverick. When they didn't, I assumed it was my stupidity for getting headers that weren't known to work on my application.

Now I am starting to think it is a problem with Patriot headers!
Is this what your's did?

I have Shelby tri-y's they fit the C4 when I had them in there and they fit the Top loader 4 spd I have now, the only thing is I have the BIG BELLHOUSING, so I did have to bend mine on the passenger side a bit. but that was just because I went with the BIG BELLHOUSING, from what I hear the big bellhousing is rare, so if you have hte normal bell housing they will fit almost any tranny you put in there. I love them.

if your woundering the deal that iskwezm is offering is a good one. I paid 400 for the headers, straight pipes with flows.

I didn't ding mine, I just kept turning the wheel until it made it's own clearance.

However, I ended up taking them off because they were 75% pinched shut!
The way Tri-Ys are, that is 2 cylinders too!
I didn't want any part of that and ended up using 6901s.

I really wanted to use T-Ys too... :(
They look stock-ish compared to LT headers, yet way outflow cast iron.
I was trying to make the Mav look stock, without being stock.
It's all out the window nowadays, partly because of going to LTs.

I only know of 2 bells...

The 157 tooth/10" clutch that is common to the 289/302.
OR
The 164 tooth/11" clutch that came in Boss 302 and pretty much all 351 cars.

I use the 164t bell on my 302s just to get the 11" clutch.

If that is the big bell you are talking about, they are not rare, unless you look for them behind a 289/302. Then you won't find many.

Anyway, if your T-Ys hit the bell, I would have that issue too.

Funny, the Patriots DID NOT hit my 164t bell!
Maybe I need one brand on the driver's side, and a Patriot on the pass side.

I had to change bells

I had the larger bellhousing, and the header hit the bellhousing where the starter ring is. So I went to the smaller bell (much harder to find btw) and I now have about 1/8 of an inch between there and the starter.

I`m not real happy with the fit of these but they gonna have to last till I can afford some more.

Brain fart!

I just remembered that when the Patriots were on the car, it had the original 10" clutch and bell...

When I pulled the Patriots out is when I put my 11" bell and CF clutch setup.
So I suppose they may not have fit.
If that is the case, I'd rather have my 11" clutch on the Toploader than a 10" clutch to fit Patriots.
That's just me though.

Other than the 6901s, the car still looks stock.
I can't wait to paint a set of aluminum heads blue.;)

The original design Shelby tri-Y's also make contact with the 164 tooth bell, and not just in the C-4, but also with an AOD, FMX and C-6. I run a set on the 302 in my 89 Ranger but with the 157 tooth bell. They fit the 83-94 Ranger's better than the 65-66 Stangs they were designed for.

My bad, I'm sorry, it looks like I got some bad info and then regurgitated it. the guy I baught the setup from told me they were rare, and three of my friends have a 65 or 66 mustang and they have the small bell. Sorry for posting bad info. your guys's info brings me to a question but I won't high jack the post.
