I am looking to make my headlights as bright as possible without the cost of doing an HID retrofit. From what everyone suggests, Sylvania Silverstars are the way to go, so that is what I am going to get. I did many searches and found one that said upgrading the wiring harness is not a must with these bulbs, but will increase current to make lights a little brighter. I am just trying to do everything I can to sqeeze the brightest light from Silverstarts with crystal clear housings. I have 1 piece headlights also if that matters. What do I need to do? Where can I buy or how can I build a NICE harness? Any help please. Thanks.

Also, what silverstar bulb(part number) is recommended or ideal for these cars? Which ones are the best?
 
Installing a relay for the low beams and one for the highs helps (I noticed a good bit more headlight output, though I was sporting a 2G alt).

This removes the voltage drop through the switchgear (which helps the switchgear live longer too - that was my reason for doing it) and gets you battery current to the lights with a short run of wire.

Of course, if the connections are poor or a relay fails, you can lose your lighting, which could be dangerous.

If a bulb has the same wattage rating as stock, it should have the same current draw.

is there a harness I can buy for this fix or a thread that shows how in detail? Also what about a part number on the silverstar bulbs, which ones are the best?
 
What about bulbs? I have decided to stay with the factory lenses, just put all clear corners and parking lights, no amber. Can I run a hotter/higher beam bulb, if so what should I run, where do I get them, and part numbers? Is there any advice on wiring them except the wiring harness that Raceaholic330 recommended?
 
I wasn't even sure what year of car you have (based upon username or avatar). If an aero fox, the two concerns I'd have with high wattage bulbs is that the headlight lenses might not like the extra heat, and the headlight connector might not be up to the task. I might give Silverstars or Nighthawks a shot (though I have NOT used either).

I run the ultras wich are only slightly better then the base silverstars, however even the lower performance lights are far and away better then the stoc, simple bulbs.
 
Is there a silverstar bulb for the foglights that is ultras like the headlights ( part Number)? Also, thanks alot for the part number on the headlight bulbs. And do I need to beef up the wiring on the fog lights if I run a brighter bulbs in them? If so, any help here would be great.

Will I hate to brake it to you but you will not increase amperage to the light. increasing the wire size will only reduce the resistance of the circuit. There for you will increase voltage avaible to the bulb. If I remder right the head lights are fused so the fuse will only burn up with excessive amperage draw. And the light will only draw a certian amount of amperage so do the good old ohms power law and figure the amperage needed to run the lamp and it may be a good chance tha factory wiring is adquite and may only need a clean up.
 
The best way to make sure your lights are as bright as possible is to make sure that your grounds are in good condition. If you have bad grounds then some of the voltage is used to overcome resistance to ground which means you are not using all the available voltage at the bulbs. Removing this resistance, ie: loose or corroded ground connections, will fix this problem.
