Heads and cam

I dont believe that....Build the motor around its components. If you get AFR 185cc's then get an intake and cam that will support them. Plenty of guys have dont it.

Guys with the TFS twisted wedges (which flow more than 165's) make just as much power and guys even do a stage 1 port job(like fox lake's) and still get great power.

I dont see why he should not run 185's, but i can be wrong. Feel free to explain, i would love to gain the knowledge.

compression? please explain more. Is there a big difference in combustion chamber size? Does the runner length/size change compression?

I just find it hard to believe that you will make MORE power with the 165's. If you build it right, i dont see why it should not be just right at that 300rwhp that everyone with AFR, TFS, Edelbrock, etc are at.

we are not talking peak... we are talking average power.

and why the hell woudl you buy the most expensive street head and then throw the cheapest cam at it?

that just makes no sense

like comp or crane???? help me out here.... the only reason why I wasn't gonna get an intake is because I may get a kenne bell roots stlye down the road and didn't wanna spend the money on it. I guess I could get my intake port and polished?

:( did you read my edit????, guess not YES, if he gets a cam and builds it right it will be right where everyone else is at.

Sorry If i stepped on your toes, but if he gets the 185s he is gonna need a new intake aswell.

HAHA, we must have just made the post at the same time cause i just read your original and not the edit. Alright we are on the same page, with the E cam you would make more power with the 165's.

BTW, get the custom cam from FTI

First thing is that 185s have 2.02 intake valves which really make Piston to Valve clearance a problem on a stock shortblock. Second yes he could get them and get a big intake and cam to work with them but what the hell is the point. You cant safely spin the stock shortblock high enough to make power that high and make it worth while. So get a good cam and the 165s and call it a day.

185's are the BETTER choice. The only down fall for you is you'll have to notch the pistons to fit. Get yourself a real cam, please! A custom cam or even a well chosen comp xe cam will make good power. I'd lose that cobra intake and get an rpm or an rpm 2 and port the inlet for a 75mm TB and run 1 5/8" longtubes.

Damn im good at making power ;)

You prefer Edel. RPM 2 over TFS track heat? Just wondering cause i have not heard much about the RPM 2
