heads were milled= now wont seal lower intake up..

ok I just had my heads milled a good bit .030, It wouldnt run so I shimmed the heads runs awesome now, really hauls ass!! the other night ny lower intake was leaking, like a steady stream out of the intake, and ended up making a damn milkshake in my engine, now today I take it out to drive and I only drove it up to 35mph at the most and 3k rpm and I get back and its leaking again... WTF!!! so now I have another milkshake to clean up, I mean its getting old

so have you guys ever ran into this problem? I used alot less rtv on the heads than I normally do, (this is what I think it is) and as soon as it got up to temp it went to pissing, so im gonna try and get a bigger tube of rtv tomorrow and see if that helps any...

but any input would be good!!

When you milled the heads you changed the alignment of the lower intake to the heads, likely causing a mismatch of the water crossover. However, I'm surprised that you were able to bolt it down if the mis-match was enough to cause a leak. Did you have to elongate the lower bolt holes to get it to bolt up?

What I've heard guys say is to try to bolt the lower to the heads without gaskets - if the bolt holes line up properly then you know that you need to have the intake milled by the thickness of the gaskets. So it's back off to the machinist's.

I've seen several lower intakes installed without gaskets and there were no leaks, if you know what you are doing with the RTV. Never heard of anyone milling the lower intake after the heads were milled, but that's not to say it doesn't happen. Make sure you use enough (not sure you can ever use too much) RTV, torque it down and let it sit for 24 hours and then drive it and torque it down again.
