anyone hear of getting good heads off of a 96 to (dont know) V8 explorer?? i`ve heard from some ppl that you can get heads off of a explorer and there suppose to be pretty good?? any feedback please?

those are called gt40p heads. they are a good budget head. Some people match them with the explorer intake (similar to the cobra). depending on the price of them, i would go for it. also, they require special headers for them. Mac makes them and i think FMS might fit as well.

i already have mac headers on my car do u know wat headers mac made to fir the exploerer heads?....and will the edelbrock rpm II intake work on them?

The earliest V8 Explorers actually used the GT40 iron heads, not the GT40P. If you get those, you don't have to change headers.

That's what I'd go with. The flow is similar, but P heads have smaller combustion chambers resulting in higher compression. Mac headers for P heads are classified as GT40P headers. They're the last one's on the page.

thanks for all the suggestions...unfortunally the headers i bought will not fit the heads so i think ill be looking into different ones. im not really sure wat i want to do yet....got all winter to think about it

yea thats what I`m going to buy. Can you give me some good websites to buy heads? or go to ebay? I went on to ebay and found gt-40 turbo heads their called..are they the same? they were about $900? good/bad?

those are aluminum. if you can afford it thats the better route to go. i got my gt40's from ebay for 350 shipped then i spent 180 at the machine shop ( valve job, shaved, and cleaned ).

Those are aluminum Ford Racing heads. The turbo swirls. They didn't come on Explorers, but are better than regular GT40s. Your best bet is to go to a junkyard and get the heads or I've heard you can go to Autozone, Advance, etc. and order two replacement heads for an Explorer and just slap them on your Mustang. I'll look for a website to buy GT40s at and I'll let you know if I find anything.

The Ford Racing headers do fit those. If you need them worked on get a hold of Thumper he knows his Ford stuff

Gt40x, Twisted wedge, AFR 165, and edelbrock rpm, are the heads you should look for if you have all winter to save.

the heads i found on ebay are def. around $900 and they come from blue oval designs...its the complete head...do i have to do anything to them other them bolt them on? kinda new at heads so trying to get all the info as possible. thanks for all help

forgot this...but the gt-40 turbo heads will they fit any type of headers?

Yes, they'll fit any type of headers. The turbo swirls are really good heads. Much better than regular GT40s. If you get those, then you can get an intake, and get another good kick in the pants. Good luck with the car.

RPM II will be too big. If they're Y303s, which I think they are, then get either a Trick Flow Street Heat intake or an Edelbrock Performer or a Cobra or GT40 will do.
