hey guys i have an original 289 thats rebuilt couple years ago. its bored out .060. theres a hipo cam but i am not sure of what type (the owner before me put it in) i have an edelbrock 4bbl carb and intake. edelbrock dual timing chain. full msd ignition. pro billet dist. and an aod tranny. I am wondering about how much horsepower do i have?? and i am thinking about getting heads. but i am new to this so what are the best heads that will give me the most hp? and will my engine last long enough to upgrade heads? or should i just wait and get the crate with aluminum gt40s that have 340 hp? and looking to converting to EFI as well so i want to get heads that will work now and work with the EFI conversion. thank you guys for all your help!!

AFR 165's would do the trick. The thing I would be more concerned about with the head choice would be the cam specs and clearance between the valves and pistons. If your cam does not match up well you won't enjoy it as much. If you plan to go EFI you might as well get a latemodel roller 5.0 block with alll the EFI hardware installed.

Yep, he passed me in the apex one time while he was picking his nose!

In fact it was just after this photo was taken.

If you want a conservative guess, try 320 ish fwhp. We don't have a clue on what heads or what cam so its pretty much not even that good of a guess.

Wait and save for the b-cammed gt40 crate motor. A friend of mine has been 82 mph in the 1/8 on the motor with it. The headache of cam and heads will already be solved for you.

No kidding.

Seriously, go to the little search button and search for "heads", and "crate engine" in both the 5.0 Tech and Classic Tech. In doing that you'll probably answer the EFI queston also.

I would guess you're making ~220-230rwhp. If its any consolation, my engine was EFI before it went into the '68.
