There are differing opinions of what is correct. For example, for me the last top rear screw on the plastic box was just not reachable. But, with some "gentle" persuasion and some RTV I did alright.

i replace my heater core on my 89 and i was never able to remove that last rear screw from the back of the case. I had to pry the cover and hold it open with a thick screw driver, remove the old heater core and install the new one. youre better off not detaching the entire case. believe me its a nightmare but not impossible.

Thats what I did!

Easy to remove all the crap that builds up in the box after many years parked under trees!
