I am in the process of preparing a '90 LX Coupe that I bought for drag racing and am getting ready to drop the new motor in the bay. While it was out, I decided that I am not going to use the A/C or Heater in the car and have removed them for weight savings. The question is what do I do with the coolant tubing that comes off of the lower intake (passenger side) and typically ties into the heater core? Do you guys, just plug the hole and deal with the check engine light? Do you make some type of bypass that ties the upper and lower tubes together and keeps the sensor plugged in?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Cut a couple of pieces of sheet metal in a rectangle shape. Put one on the firewall side and the other inside the car. Put a sheet metal screw through where the center of the hoses used to go to secure the sheet metal covers in place.

I am doing the same thing now. I only capped the one outlet on the water pump, since the second one is connected to the t stat housing on mine.

The rules say that you need to cover any holes, and to use at least .032 aluminum or .024 steel. I just ordered a sheet of aluminum to do my rear firewall for the fuel cell, and will block off the heater and A/C holes, and also the opening at my steering shaft that I had to make up to clear the headers.

I read the service book on what it takes to remove the heater core, and after reading all the stuff, which mounted to 1-2 days of work, I removed the glove box, and introduced the air distribution box to Mr Saws All :) 1 1 /2 hours latter, no more heat or A/C system. I did it in small chunks to make sure I didnt cut any wires... Spent 2 full days with a heat gun and putty knife scraping the tar stuff from the floor. When I was done, weighed the stuff, 35 lbs of it....

I bet I have removed at least 350 lbs so far, and still at it.
