Heater Hoses

Hi, I'm doing a 5.0L EFI swap. Does it matter which heater hose goes where? I know one goes to the intake and one goes to the water pump, but I don't know which (upper/lower) goes to which place or if it matters.

P.S. Why can't I search???

Well, the pictures in my Ford Shop Manual show the intake hose going to the bottom and the WP hose going to the top.

It doesn't matter, it just goes in one end of the heater and out the other, you can put them on which ever way is the easiest route.

Well, it does a little bit but probably not enough to matter. My diagram shows the direction of circulation, and since the inlet and outlet on the heater core are upper and lower, crossing the hoses may mean the flow has to go uphill.

Thanks a bunch!! Maybe I will get to work on this tomorrow then. Will it hurt if I take out one of the intake bolts and then put it back in and torque it back down?

The five liter motor uses this "rail" thing and part of the bracket bolts down to the intake using an intake bolt.

Only someone who lives in Leadville Co. ( highest city in the USA) would worry about the coolant having to flow up hill Whatcha think it does going from the block UP to the heads and UP out of the intake into the heater hose Not to mention that initial steep pull up from the bottom of the radiator UP to the water pump.

Yea, that's nice, fires at night. But then again that's normal for even the warmest summer days in Leadville. It got down to 68 degrees here last night, we've had a somewhat "cool" summer here this year. Two weeks ago a front came thru and it was down to 60 at night Stayed that way for almost a week.

We had snow about 200' above us 5 days ago. It took 2 days to melt off.

It won't hurt a thing to take out an intake bolt and torque it back.
