Heater switch connector and resistor

Here is a basic diagram of how it is setup.



You will have to ohm out the resistors to find out which terminal is common. Or easier, just remove it and look at the orientation of the terminals.

Then check with an ohmeter whatever switch you use to figure how the terminals are setup.

Im putting in the heater box in the car and I have 2 questions (the PO take it out and drop it in the trunk when I bought the car last year).

The heater controls doesnt seem to have a wiring connector, is there a way to make it work with out it?; for example putting an aftermarket 3 position switch somewhere else and control it from there?
Is there a way to know if the heater resistor works? the one that its installed looks complete but I dont really know what it is for and how to check it.

Virginia Mustang sells the switch with the harness. I bought one a few months ago and it works great.

Air comes in through the cowl, the hoses must be hooked up for defrost, and the heat is released through the box when you cut in on.....doors will open that are controlled by cables connected to the switch. If you don't have the cables (3 of them) you can now purchase them also through most vendors. The heater/defroster cables connect to the unit on the left side of the dash to the left of the steering wheel. If you just open the defrost and move the heat lever up, only the defrost door opens: same for heat, or you can have both at once. If you did not rebuild the box with new seals, etc... I suggest backing up!! Get a rebuild kit from a Mustang vendor and save yourself alot of headache later. I would also replace the heater core while you are in there.

I rebuilt mine and I regret not buying a new plastic heater box. The original one is cardboard and it's already sagging below the dash.
