I am currently short on money but this summer I was hoping to add some power to my mustang. My friend has a sick turbo civic and because of where I live I dont want a supercharger (rains a lot). I was looking at the hellion kit which I have never heard anything bad about but it is very expensive. Does anyone know where I can get it cheaper and has anyone had a any problems with it. I have a 2002 GT with 90,000 miles on if that means anything. Any and All advice would be great!

a turbo setup will be easily over 10K when all is said and done. you need a new fuel system $1200 or more. custom tune, suspension mods, and a built bottom end if you want to make any real power.
i have almost $7K in my built engine alone. not to mention a $4K trans and $1500 rear end

just curious why does rain have anything to do with a s/c? it is not making boost unless you are WOT. my buddy drives a 450HP KB car in the rain all the time

thats what you need. everything included and will not blow your stock engine for $3900

A s/c is def your best bet. Rain? If you go centri it will only affect highr rpm anyway. Go centri and keep it mild in the rain if you are really concerned about that. Your tires will just spin if the roads are wet. save the dough and do something else with it.

I'm no expert but those turbo kits are expensive and more complicated IMO. Nitrous and blowers are cheaper and alot more beginner friendly when it comes to price and ease of install.

First, you're gonna have to decide if you want a car that makes a certain amount of hp or a certain ET at the track. Or do you just want beastly machine that makes cute lil noises going down the road. Then you're gonna have to match that with how much $$ you wanna spend. The stock setup is only good for about 10lbs of boost max and the tranny I think is good for about 400, 450 or so. Then there's the rear end.

I don't wanna ruin any of your plans but pay to play. If you are gonna have money then I think I'd recommend getting a termi. JMO

A supercharger is going to require the same upgrades. The only real cost difference is in the kits. All the supporting mods are going to be very very similar.

And if he's only looking for ~500hp he could get away with using the stock heads, cams, and intake.

The well designed turbo kits aren't really all that complicated. More issues do tend to pop up, but if you can install a supercharger yourself, i'm sure you could manage a turbo install. It's hard to beat the performance with a good turbo kit too.

A cobra isn't a bad idea, but i'm sure he'll want more power eventually and then he's going to have the same issues. Upgraded blower, fuel system, pistons, suspension, etc.

Go with the Mongoose kit that SaleenGT2001 suggested. They're cost effective, make great power and are idiot proof. Yes, the latest turbo systems make gobs of power, but its going to cost you twice as much after all is said and done and the install is going to be a real PITA for the beginner.

I personally don’t like the drivability of a turbo charged modular on the street. They’re not responsive enough down low and the power band is too short and violent for my taste.

.....and before anyone goes off on a tangent.....save it, I’ve heard all of the blah, blah, blah about reduced lag with newer systems and how low the power band comes on and what not, but reduced doesn’t mean eliminated. I have yet to see any turbo set up that displays the street manners or drivability of a good Positive Displacement blower, no matter how tame the set up may be.

If I want to build a track car, I'll look into a turbo set up, but for the street, I'll stick with a blower thanks.

...unless I could afford a compound set up....then I'd have the best of both worlds.
