Help 1st trip to track! Ran 15's

I finally went to the track to establish a baseline before I mod my Stang. My best times were:
60' : 2.312
1/8 time : 10.030
1/8 MPH : 69.61
1/4 time : 15.596 sec.
1/4 MPH : 88.92 MPH

I know this isn't blazing fast, but do they seem about right for my current mods? I already know my 60' times are bad but so are my tires. How much would some 3.73's help? Thanks

P.S. Atleast I ran faster that the other people (All Chevy's) I went with!

ya 3.73 would help as well as some dr's these are cheap mods as well.

Gears will help you in the long run; that's the first thing I'd get done to your car. After that, practice launching. No reason you can't cut a 1.9-2.0 sixty foot time on those tires with practice. You bascically want to get off the line as fast as you can without breaking traction which is easier said than done for a lot of people.

With your mods and 373's,I dont see why you shouldnt be in the low 14's,,even high 13's,with some good driving,and traction.Check out the quote in Nkau's sig.,by Mike Keirstead,its so true

Sorry to say, but those times are not good at all. With those times, it appears that something is wrong with your stang. Your trap speeds should be atleat 96mph+.

What are you shifting at? What gears do you have now? Definitely should be MPH in the 96-100 MPH range for sure. 69 MPH in the 1/8th... if you have 2.73s that would mean you are just getting out of second gear around the 1/th mile?????? Or that you might be buzzing the car way to high with 3.08s and its slowing you down???

If the motor is stock, shift around 5200 on your stock tach.. regardless of that 60 foot something else is up because you still should have run in the 14s and at least 96 MPH [more like 98-100 with your mods] with a 60' like that. Where's the timing set at? No one left the timing spout out by accident?

Didn't even notice the trap speed as I was scrolling through. You either have some serious mechanical/tuning problems with your car, or you are shifting way too high. Like Schlodes said, with a stock motor you should be shifting right around 5200 rpm.

When mine was an auto with only mods being 4.10's it ran a very similiar time. Now it is capable of a low 13 on my d/r's and has beaten my friend in his 02 Formula Firebird LS1 by a car length up to 115mph which ran a 13.4 a week ago. Just get some more mods, drag radials and launch practice

I dont want to sound mean but it could be the driver, It says you are 17 so I assume you havent been driving very long, and this is your first trip to the track. I think with some better driving and gears your car will be much faster. Dont get discouraged, it takes time.

Should'nt that car be runnin low 14's even with the stock gear? I wouldnt do anymore mods untill your car runs mid 14's atleast or you find out whats holding it back. A gear and tires may take off about .5-.8 tenths off your time but you would still be runnin around 14.8 which doesnt seem right.

Can someone tell me.... how are you supposed to get sub 2 sec 60' times without mods? I can come out of the hole around 2500 or so without spinning and the best I cut was a 2.1 and thats with modded control arms and the front sway bar loose. Granted I've also got a vert but any higher rpm and it would spin. I've got a lot of experience with these but thats the best it'll do. Before I did those mods, I couldn't get past a 2.4 sec 60'. I don't think his 60' times are all that bad for stock. I would think his problem is probably in the shifting. He needs to work on that more than anything.....

look to me like you need to learn to shift faster. my 60' time is only one tenth better than yours yet I run a full second faster in the 1/4. my car is bone stock with 137,000 miles, check the sig for info.

BTW I launch from idle and ease into the gas so I dont spin, I am running yokohama tires.

Yea i would suggest that you really practice your launches and get those RPMs up quicker.....and like some people said above, work on really quick shifts at about 5200. Find a nice emtpy parking lot and practice how fast you can leave the line without breaking the tires loose. gears would help a ton....i need to do them too

OK, first off I shifted at about 5600 in first and about 5300 in second and finished the 1/4 at about 4800 in 3rd gear.
Also I wasn't powershifting, just slamming gears as fast as possible. My friends told me I was spinning them through first and a little into 2nd.
I was told the timing is bumped up 2 degrees but I can't verify this. I plan on changing the plugs and checking the timing next week.

So I need to shift sooner? Powershift? Thanks all, I'll practice more too!

Yeah, you should be under 15 seconds. You probably have some mechanical or tuneup issues.

Sounds like your really roasting them out of the hole,,dont know how your budjet is,but after a tune up ( plugs wires,rotor,cap,air cleaner--K&N, fuel filter,check your timing,,,its real easy bro,,bump it too 14,and run 93 octane gas) then if you can swing it get a set of gears and some drag radials,then youll start having fun

That explains a lot to me. Your just spinning all over the place and only a fraction of the power is going to the ground. I see it all the time. Launch at a lower rpm, maby right off idle, but give it a little jolt to transfer the weight to the rear by dropping the clutch fast, and put the pedal down a little slower,then it should stick. It's going to take some practice, but drag racing is a sport, and it's going to take practice. Maby get some drag radials, they make a world of difference. Gears do too!!!

Keep your head up, and just practice as much as possible.
