Help please!

Timing belt broke on the car.

At the moment I'm still trying to get the crankshaft pulley hub off to put on the new belt. My breaker bar was bending trying to get the bolt out.

I don't see any stampings on the cam gear to set the timing. There is a plastic piece down about 5 o'clock from the cam gear with a line in the middle of it. There is a metal point to the inside of the gear opposite one of the teeth. Is this the mark?

What about the auxillary gear? Does it matter where it is set?

I do see the cut on the crank pulley and the TC marking on the timing cover.

2.3 is new turf for me. I can handle a 302 timing change with no problem, but this is Greek to me!

If it stops raining, I can get some pics & post.

Thanks.

On the stock cam gear there is a little triangle (pointer) that needs to be aligned with the plastic pointer on the inner cover.

Aux gear (no ) but the rotor should be pointing twards 1 at TDC

I am sure someone will chime in with the string method and some links that i cant find right now

? rotor

The car has 2 coil packs. I didn't think it had a rotor

It is a 1993. Like I said before, this is new turf for me.

I wish I had never bought this car for the hubby! All I do is work on it!

NY Eric - you were awake when you answered. I forgot to put the year of the car in my original post. I'm sorry.

Bell - Thank you. I checked the article out. I think I can get it now.

Haven't been able to get to it today. It has been storming here & my asthma kicked in. Between the two, I haven't touched the car today.

Once again. Thank you both.
