The car is an 89 LX with auto trans. When the car is in Park it idles way too fast (1500-2000 rpm) especially when it is cold. However, even once it warms up it still always idles around 1500 rpm. What could be causing this? What should I check first?

If it was the TPS it would jump RPMs(rise then drop over and over).

prolly your air idler

and usually if it idles high then thats sometimes a good thing its alot closer to the power band

Yes, I have learned quite a bit since joining StangNet.
The "powerband" is esentially the RPM range where the most power is put out from the engine. How's that sound? It seems to be, at least for my NA 2.3, between 3,500 RPM and 4,500 RPM.
I made that joke because these cars seem to have no power at all ... at any level.

well do a lil building and you will have a 14 sec car...it dont take much. I got a NA build under 1900 and its gonna be arund 200hp, top a 75 shot of nos and you got a 13 sec car.take some weight out of the car and it accels alot quicker...it dont take much...of course you got everyone here telling you the cheapest way to build a 2.3 is to turbo it....take into consideration the price of the parts car, extra parts, and then instalation, machine work its about the same.

here it coses 12$ to bore a motor as much as you want ans that includes labor...a 3angle valve job i dot knwo yet havent asked them...which remids me iam gonna find out now.

a 2.3 is an 8valve head correct? any more would make it a DOHC so the guy that does head work usually charges 70$ do to a 3 angle valve job and thats including labor also.I read somewhere on here some one said a 3 angle valve job and a cam larger valves will give you about 50 hp.

Yes, a 2.3 is an 8 valve head.

I dont know about the larger valves and a 3 angle valve job giving you 50hp more, that seems like quite an exaggeration. They can't be worth that much considering nobody here has even really done it, that I have heard of anyway.

i would love to see it. especally a list of mods. i find this very hard to believe. considering you did it under $1900.

p.s. after 240 posts, still havent figured out the whole Quote thing yet.
