My '69 came with no engine so I had to source one separately. I got my hands on a 351w 2v with a C6 tranny with unknown pedigree. As I said, it came with a C6 tranny and had a rear sump oil pan which leads me to believe it came from a truck. Some people I spoke with thought it might have come from an E150 or an ambulance.

How do I definitively tell from what vehicle it came from and what year it was made?? And what were the differences of the various 351w's that were made???

Hmmm.... I put a 351w/C6 in my brother-in-law's '81 F-100, it was pulled from a E-150. But I don't recall what sump it had, I think it was a rear sump.

If you'll pull the starter, there will be a number cast into the block, In the format of C9OE-6015-B, which incidently is a '69 351w block part number. There will also be a set of 4 digits between 2 screw heads in something like 9B15 which is the date casting code, if that was on that '69 block, it would denote 1969, February 15 I believe.

The 351w block in '69-'70 was a little shorter deck block than the later blocks (9.48 vs. 9.503").
