Fellas, the last couple of nights my alternator would show a charge then after about 10 minutes of driving it would discharge (as if it were not working at all)
after another 10-15 minutes of driving..I increased RPMs and it came back on line.. it did the exact same thing last night.

I checked.. all wires appeared connected. What gives? can a alternator produce power then go offline and come back on?? Every other time I've had one fail it just gave out. I think the only reason it kept running..I have a new Opima battery.

If the alternator was bad I was going to get a 3G 95 amp.

Thanks,

Damien

The stock alternator wiring has a push on connector for the black/white wires where they connect to the alternator. This connector tends to overheat and fail. Look for signs of heat damage and replace if you find any damage.

when the voltage drops again, go under the hood while the voltage is still dropped and unhook the positive battery cable and see if it still runs. if not then it is not a bad gauge

Most auto parts stores sell a replacement plug to fix this. Check the plug and see if has any burn marks around it or if it looks like it is turning yellowish.

Thanks

Thanks, guys.. have to check it when I get time!.

I was looking at PA performance or Mr Alternator in SC... I wanted to get a new one ---any experience with these??. It seems like if you buy a rebuilt one.. you have to get a few before you get one that works.

Thanks again,

Damien
