Help - Best Winter Tires

I hate to break it to ya dude but Mustangs do not like snow at all. Be very careful with the torque if this is your first Stang...BEWARE in the snow. Michelin Pilots are good all around. Good Luck. :nice:

I can't really advise anything on that b/c I never tried it. All I can say is I live in VA where the snow is light most of the time and whenever it snows I see see V8 Stangs wrecked all over the place. sliding or stuck in a ditch. I'm assuming Canada snows tons compared to here.

Blizzaks on all four tires and then I would make sure that you get the skinniest tires that you can within reason... 225s or 215s would be ideal. More weight is transfered to the ground on a smaller surface. Just think of the wider surface like a snowboard..

I agree with JR, if there is anyway you can, get another vehicle for the winter. But, if you must drive it, do just as the others here said and get the narrowist (is that a word) tires you can buy, and the blizzaks are a GREAT snow tire. Call Todd at discount tire direct and tell him you are a member on the corral.net and he'll give you a slight discount. I'd buy some 15" V6 wheels or a set of steelies for it to mount the winter tires on. Sand in the trunk is also a good idea. On Nov 15th I'm allowed to put my studded winter snow tires back on my '02 focus ZX3 and you know what that means... the snow will be here soon. I hate this time of year. :(

I've ALWAYS driven in the winter, and with gears & a stick, too.
Just get some rims w/Blizzaks from Tire Rack. Had these on the Fox for many years & never got stuck--even goes on ice, if you're careful.
This is the first year I'll be using the 95 for winter driving, & I got a set of Mach 1s w/Dunlop snows (used)over the internet. If they're half as good as the Blizzaks, I'll be fine.
Use the stang. Why drive a second-rate car for half the year?

i put my stang in the barn for the winter for mods, but i have been drivin a 94 z 28 in the winter, snows all the eway around, not any thing but snows, any brand will do AND 100 #s in the back,,full tank gas,its ablast, like a big snowmobile...providing the snow is not too deep......you do want to hit an empty parking lot with first snow and find out what the car is all about....aaa club membership for about 25 bucks a year is a good option for the free towing....put a small shovel in back

I would spend the money to get a cheap beater. If not then put some sand bags in the trunk and get some 16's with Blizzaks. I don't drive the Stang at all when it calls for snow. First year I had the Stang I got caught in snow that was not supposed to show up till hours later. Since I was going to switch cars, a Maxima, I was unprepared with an empty trunk and all-season tires. Even with a full tank of gas I could not get any traction at all. Stopping no matter how gradual the rear would always kick out slightly and at one point with the car stopped and at a light the rear was sliding out by itself!

Blizzacks hizzaks, you guys are all crazy. :nonono: Get a beater for $500 and save your Stang from the salt and sand. :nice:

:nice: thats what I did last yr, actually my beater was $900 but well worth the money to keep my stang out of the snow and salt. Just bought a 2000 Ranger XLT so no more winter beaters for me and no more daily driver for the stang :nice:

I've driven stangs year round in minnesota... Though now I'm in my first 5.0.
Most recently on my previous stang, I had some wide BFG Radial T/As, they worked pretty damn well. And that car did not have a limited slip rear diff.
Are you driving a stick? Generally, it is easier to get yourself out of lousy winter situations with a manual tranny, IMHO.
