Help build a reliable 347. What parts or Kit to use??

ok guys i was going to go with a DSS 347 shortblock but now i think i could save some $$ by getting a kit or piecing one together of nice quality parts. I haven't built a short block before but i know the motor pretty good and think i can do it. I plan on getting a nice low mileage 302 from a 89 LX for $100. Then will have it .030 over, align bored honed whichever, cleaned and whatever else they do to the block. The parts that are currently on my 306 will go to the 347. only thing i will have to do i think is go to bigger injectors like 30 or 36's. i would also like to have my TFS heads ported. what do you all think.. Down the road i would also like to have some Boost on this motor so I need to keep compression in a safe area like 9:1 or somewhere around there i belive

By the time you do all of that work and buy your kit you will find it just as or more economical to have bought a shrtblock from DSS or CHP. Check pricing from both places before you do anything and I would speak to Brian at adperformance.com
He may be able to help you out some also......

what he said, but personally i like building a engine with parts i picked, i dont know about you building it , is it realy worth the risk after all that moneys spent?

if u want to run a blower 8:5:1 compression is perfect but 9:1 is doable

sounds like fun, thats what i intended to do but changed my mind

thanks guys. I have looked at both CHP and DSS for a while now and have had people tell me both ways ( piecing it or buying a short block). Im not worried about me being able to assemble it but more that i am not sure what parts work well together. i think i might just go with a short block but then again thats why i am asking everyones opinions

I say piece it together. Do you know who you want to do the machine work for you?
What size injectors do you have now? 24's right?

Oh, the Ranger is back up, and I got my Lightning blower sitting downstairs. Just need to mount that soon.

Ya i throw different combos around in my head but the 347 is my plans for the GT. you need to get that blower on there allready!! Who machined your motor?? I planned on talking to sharad and ask his opinion before i did anything. OH ya off topic but i am now a Ford truck man as well.. Got a 77 F250 4wd with a big 400. Its a beast!! 100 bux

100 bux!!!! Man what a deal! I'll need to see it soon.

I had my motor machined by performance clinic in Fairborn.
But after having Kammer & Kammer do the work on my axle, and taking a tour of the place, I think the next machining project I do will be at their place.
They have both an inground dyno, and an engine dyno. Plus they just added a 5000 sq-ft chassis shop. Very cool!

As for the blower, I need to get the snout extended 6" to clear the distributer and accessories on these motors. So that will be awhile.

Let me know what Sharad thinks. I'd like to know what he's up to these days.
