it is probably 180 out.. put it at o degrees.. then install your distributor and make sure the rotor points at the number one cylinder tower.. .. then turn it over.. if it dont start ..(I know you said you just did that.. ) THIS STEP IS VITAL !! ENSURE you turn the crank over so that once again the rotor points at the #1 tower just like it did before you started cranking it DO NOT REMOVE THE DISTR.. TILL YOU HAVE DONE THE STEP ABOVE .. THEN remove the distributor again..now with the distr. out.. turn your crank one revelution again to the zero degree mark .. reinstall the distributor and point to the number 1 cylinder and turn the car over.. it should workk.. what happens is that the sometimes when you install it.. yes the #1 piston is TDC but it is on the wrong stroke.. so if you turn your crank one revolution it sets it to the second TDC.. which should be the power stroke.. hope I helped.. only two options here.. one or the other will work.. oh and before you do all of this.. make sure the button for the fuel shutoff in the trunkc is not set off.. look in the owners manual if u dont know what I am talking about... We troubleshot a car once for two hours and figured out it wasn't getting fuel because that darned button in the trunckk.. let me know how it works out..

Just thought I'd say that the switch he's talking about is the "inertia switch" and is in the driver's side of the trunk. There should be a hole in the molding to stick your finger through to depress the button. No need to rip anything appart to find it.

Yea won't hurt to make sure both rockers are up when number 1 is at tdc.

Thanx 4 the input , figured it out , I was 180 out and my firing order was a little fuct. All fixed now I think I fixed the original problem which prompted me to swap the CMP (pickup) I had a intermittent stall, hard start issue and a lopey idle, replaced my IAC,ICM,MAF, and o2 sensors. Still wasn't fixed, found a guy in the forum with the same problem who fixed it by replacing the stator (CMP, pickup)(different names, same part ) Wish me luck hopefully its all good now!
