when my car rolls backwards very slowly, it makes a loud squeaking noise, only in some spots, almost as if something is rubbing but only in a certain spot, it is loud enough to hear in the car when the car is running. i just had my gears done so i dont know if it is something in the rear end, but it only does it while rolling backwards and very slowly wheather the car is off or on it doesnt matter. it almost sounds like one of my brake pads is rubbing to much on one side, when they did my gears i thought they might have switched my pads by accident an they werent worn into the right rotor like they used to be. but i have no clue what it could be and it is driving me nuts, it just started, and it did not do it when i first got my car back from the shop. anyone have any idea what it could be? on our cars when you do gears, do you have to grease the axles before you slide them back in so they spin smooth or are they lubed by the differential fluid? thanks

I've had that issue for a couple of years now. I have no idea what it is.

I've had several places check the rear brakes, and no one found anything wrong. Nothing was found to be wrong with anything when the gears got done either, but it still happens.

I've noticed that it only happens when the car has been sitting for a few hours when it's really humid outside. It's screwy as hell.

Since you just had work done, have you had the place recheck and make sure nothing is wrong?

My first thought would be that maybe they bent one of the brake backing plates and it is rubbing a rotor..

There is no reason to grease the axles in a job like this but when seals are replaced you should pre-pack them.. I have seen dry seals make noise but on rare occasions...

oh yea he did pre-pack them, i remember him saying that, also i just touched my brake pad and it seemed to stop lol, i think it was that but we will see when i go out for a drive again. is it possible for a brake pad rubbing a rotor to much to be hearable in your car?
