Well, looks like Im going to keep the car so Im going to do everything the right way. Its going up on a rotisserie to be cleaned and por15 underneath, por15 the interior and shaved engine bay. Well, I sold all my 02 Gt stuff that I was going to transplant so the stock interior is going back in. Sticking with a windsor based motor too.... Right now there are 2 motors sitting in the garage, a stock 302 and a modded 393 stroker. Here is whats up with each...

302 (306) - 87 roller motor with 86 forged pistons. Stock heads with 3 angle valve job. New mains, cam, bearings, bore/honed, polished crank, port & polished heads.

393 - 69 block, spend $6k in the build. Motor dyno at 450hp and 500ft/lbs. The only downside is the hyperutectic pistons. I figure with a good Vr. Jr intake or something similar, I can get it to 500hp. Right now it has a Performer intake (almost like a stock truck intake). If I use this motor, I need a new distributor, intake, and some little things.

Ideas for both routes... If I go with the 5.0 route, Im going to fab up a custom twin turbo kit. Hope to push right at 600 hp (475 at the wheels) and if the motor goes, I will build a new stout 331. If I got with the 302, the heads suck and I need new intake/injectors/mass air. I can probably come up with this stuff sorta cheap. I ahve $500 into this motor.

If I go 393, it will be a carb'd motor and I cant go above the 500 mark...no juice, no supercharger or turbos.. If I kill that motor, Im in some trouble, it was exensive.

Here's the other notes about the motors. My dad has a 68 stang and whichever motor I dont use, its going in his 68. Im looking to restomod the heck out of my car and he just wants to puts around 2 miles to work and back everyday. What would you guys do?

I say keep the 302, sell/give the 393 away and turbo the 302 like you want. I'm heading in this direction also. I'm not looking at running more than 6-12lbs boost anyway. If the block blows up, big deal. Get another one. That one blows up too, hey get another one. I can run the factory 87-93 block, a dss bullet block, the options are almost endless. Oh and one more thing, in today's world, not porsche from the 80's, the is no such thing as turbo lag on a properly designed setup.

Although, money not being an issue, I'd kill to turbo a 351 someday. What a strong block that would be

i would use the 393. turbo 302's are nice, can be quite finicky on the street.

well, made up my mind after talking to a buddy for a while. Im going to build a twin turbo 302. Im hoping to push 450 at teh wheels with my stock motor. If it blows, Im getting a forged 302 from CHP. I already scored a brand new Victor EFI intake for $400 that has been polished and powdercoated. Also found a set of Aeromotive rails and regulator for $150. I love good deals

bah, forget the turbos and go 393, that sounds like a bad 393 motor, i mean, you'll sound ricerish with turbo whines coming out from under neath an ole muscle car..... (you can always get people to change their mind if you tell em what they are doing is ricerish lol)

Do you have any details on how/where you got that 302 (306) for that kind of price?

I'd like to upgrade to a fox roller motor eventually and it'd be nice if I could get a ~$500 deal on a long block with that kind of work done to it locally.

Blake,

I scored a deal a while back from Patrick (pattymelt1285) off dfwstangs. I got the motor, intake, throttle body, mass air, injectors, rails, oil pan, pickup and soem other small things. He just wanted to get rid of it. His buddy is teh lead motor guy at chevy and built the motor for him for free. Just gotta look around and wait for a good deal.

bad67fun... my only problem ($) is the lack of it. Im 19 and struggling along spending all my money on cars and my bike. I live at home and cant even think about moving out now

I would get my own place first. Way more chick action that way than living at home and having a nice car.

One question-------- Why put 86 pistons in an 87 motor? You're just begging for the valves to kiss the pistons with no valve reliefs.
