Seems like many people have mixed opinions about thisIt doesn’t take a drag racer to comment on what may or may not be a decent converter for your car.
I always defer to the experts. You call up dude at xxx torque converter supply, and you tell him what you want to do, what you currently have, and dude tells you what you should buy.
Im no manual guy. And I’m no drag racer,..but I’d think twice about installing a slippery converter in a street car. And a 3600 stall converter installed in an AOD behind a fairly stock 5.0, will..........( what’s the word here?...................oh yeah....Suck)
Just trying to make a street car funThere is always a gain in switching the converter over stock. This isn't the best forum to ask on though. Lots of manual guys, and very few drag racers. Not sure where to direct you. Converters have gone the way of camshafts; everyone is recommending a custom built piece from PTC or something now. It really depends on your goals.

Agreed , my setup was not cheap but then again what is these days !PTC is awesome. They are pricey though.

Yeah but that’s when you have to work with your converter guy to maximize what you have . In the end it will go faster . It just may not have been right the first go roundA $300 converter from B&M or TCI is cheap, and will be just fine on a street car. I had a racing acquaintance that pulled out his B&M to put in a custom Neil Chance converter, and the car consistently ran slower. It happens sometimes.

When high hp and street driving come into play it is definitely money well spent to have a converter that can handle both. I spent close to that on the PTC that’s in mine .I'm the kind of guy who would spend $900 on a converter. I don't think the OP is that kind of person. If you aren't trying to shave fractions of a second off your 60', then it's not money well spent.
