I am getting a cobra bumper for sure, but i can't decide where i should buy it. i can get an oem from the body shop for $425 or I can get a repo from 50resto for $230. Does anyone have a repo from them???? Is it good quality???? What should I do???

Also i need one that doesn't need alot of prep work done to it.

p.s. exactly what foglights should i get to match the stock 96-98 cobra headlights with bright white bulbs. I have a spot to plug them in behind my bumper, but i have no switch in the car, b/c it is a gts. does anyone know if there is wireing for it if i just get a stock switch???

I'm in the process of putting one on mine....Dont get your fogs from Blue oval industries on Ebay...I pd 118.00 for a set and they dont fit for chit..I gotta cut the brackets on em and reweld, they need to be moved 1/2"
to center in the bumper hole.... :bang: Mine is a Ford bumper, don't know if they fit a/market ones better ??
I would order the fogs from Ford if I had to do it again.....

IMO repo parts are not that excellent. They may work fine but I feel more confident buying the real stuff. The original equipment may cost a little more but you always get what you pay for and it may fit a little better as well. :nice: All the repo stuff I tried I ended up selling on eBay.

I bought my Cobra front and rear bumper from Ebay. They are OEM parts and I saved about $200-$250 from the new price each at the dealer. The bad part was that I had to spend HOURS prepping and then I had to paint. I like doing it but if you are not able to do that or are not skilled at that, buy a new one and have it painted at a body shop. Used bumpers are a biznatch to scratch and prep to hold paint without chipping off.

My advice, don't by aftermarket, buy OEM. Buy a new one too.

As for the lights, I bought my fogs from ebay and were actual cobra used fogs not new "blue oval" fogs. The lights mounted right up.

I got mine from 50resto.com. It fits pretty nice, but not perfect. I also got the fog lights from 50resto.com and they line up straight but I think they are too far back...and when I had to change bulbs the housing was warped :nonono:, almost like it melted. Took me over an hour to change one bulb :bang:.

yeah, i am leaning toward just getting an oem one also. i am very fusy, but i have heard that 50 resto has a good repo one.

i am also getting a cobra r hood. I am probably buying it from h.o. fobertrends which designed the original cobra r hood in 1995. their price is $369, but for shipping there is a $20 boxing fee and then the price of shipping from ohio to michigan. I don't know exactly what that will cost, but i am tempted to just drive 6 hrs. there and pick it up for $369. Tomorrow i am going to a ford dealership, b/c i have some connections that might be able to get me a cobra r hood and bumper. We'll have to see what kind of prices they give me and then i will decide.

thanks

for the fogs, i don't know if i need the wiring kit, b/c i think i can jst plug them in and buy a switch as long as the wiring continues into the cabin.

well, that kind of turns me away from 50resto.

Another quetion:

what side emblems should i get??? i am leaning toward the one that says "5.0" with "high performance" under it or the one that says "302" with "high performance" under it. i kind of like the italic 302 also.

My bud is an FRPP dealer...HIS best price for the Ford Cobra R was 595.000

I got mine from HO Fibertrends to....1 1/2 cowl....Nice hood for sure...super lite but really rugged...not flimsy in the least...I pd 65.00 shipping from Oh to N.H....shipping shouldnt be all the much for you...
Check out http://www.mustangparts.com/.....they have all OEM stuff, decent prices and fast shipping. You can buy the OEM fogs with brackets and even the headlights..i've dealt with them many times...good folks...

you got the 1.5". i have heard that this is pretty much stock height. i was thinking about getting the 2.5". Now i don't know. do you have any pics??? thats not bad for shipping.

so you are satisified with the hood quality?? what about the underside??? any mods needed to fit right???

thanks

rio,

i look at one of your other threads at your hood. Are you sure that is a 1.5"??? It looks like the 2.5" to me. My buddy has a fibertrends that looks exactly like that and he said it is a 2.5". also, how long did it take for you to get the hood, b/c i need mine by next wed. do you have any other pics of the hood???

p.s. i have decided to get an oem bumper for sure.

Yup...mines 1.5...thats like adding 1.5 to your existing hood...i didn't want it to crazy and thats the true R size hood...
If he has them in stock your ok...i had to wait 3 wks as he was setting up to make some...
Prep was minimal...was nice and flat, no ripples, waves or the like...had some minor pin holes in the gel coat on the edges to dub with....body guy said it was a mint hood for sure....these have steel inserts for the hinges all installed...the hood latch set-up is nice to...this is a factory set-up so hood pins wont be needed as in others....this is the hood you'll get from Ford if you go thru them...

yeah, i think i am just going to get it from ford, b/c there is no shipping and i can get it really cheap.

p.s. the body shop is being a pain in the a$$, so i may go somewhere else. The insurance company is paying 6 hrs of labor to fix the cracks in my hood, but I want a new one, not some jimmy rigged pos, so i ask the shop if they would write me a check for the 6 hrs of labor to fix the old hood, so that i could use it toward the new one, but they were pissed off and tried to tell me that they are getting jipped out of money. I said "why should you get 6 hrs of labor to repair the old hood when you have nothing to repair anymore since i am buying a new one out of my own pocket." Then he wanted to charge me since they can't market up the price of the hood if i were to buy it from them. Then i said" so what you are saying is that you want to mark up the price of the hood that i am buying somewhere else out of my own pocket, b/c you think it is costing you money somehow?????"

isn't that bu!!sh**

update:

i took my car to a nearby ford dealership, b/c i found yet another hook up. I don't know specifics yet, but i can probably get my hood covered and my car is going to be done sooner, so i will not be going back to that initial shop.

p.s. Hopefully soon i will be able to post pics of the finished product.
