So I just started running the engine again today. It has only been about 3 days since I last mucked with it. If anyone remembers, the last time I ran it, just before I cleaned all the spark plugs off because it was missing so bad. Half the plugs had gas on them. After I cleaned them off, it ran "ok".. All cylinders were firing but the exhaust was popping a lot with small backfires. Today, I start it up and it's totally running worse than previous. It's missing on at least 4 cylinders or at least partially firing on those. I did my little trick where I slowly pull the missing cylinders wire off the dist, just enough to leave a big gap and here a click click click . Doing this at fast idle usually burns the crap off the plugs and gets it running better again. I did this, and it sounded better. But hell, I could not get it to clear up all the way. Well, it would clear up, but then shortly after I put the wire fully back on to the dist, it would start missing on that cylinder again. the exhaust is so bad that it was smoking up the whole neighborhood. The house smells like it, and I had to change clothes just because I smelled so bad.

Why is it running so damn rich? And why do the plugs keep fouling up within a matter of a couple days? I can't even get it to run normal. Timing is set at 14 deg. vac lines are capped. couldn't even drive it because it smoked up the car so bad. Oh yeah, and I have one other problem. The back brakes are not releasing fully. I adjusted the brake shoe dials on each side just enough to make it a bit difficult to get the drums on. I thought you were supposed to do this, then put the car in reverse .. move and then hit the brakes a few times so it would self adjust. I did this, but I have not heard any clicking noises coming from either side. I think they are still at the same adjustment because the car slows down too fast and when I checked the drums when I got back, they were starting to get pretty hot. I was only going about 20 MPH and not hardly touching the brakes. What did I do wrong?

Any ideas here? I'm welcome to suggestions from you engine gurus out there. I was hoping to drive it over my friends today. Or at least get it over there and maybe see if he canfigure out whats going on. There are no engine codes. I have been swapping the battery from my 3.8 because I have no batt for this atm.

So I got a hold of my friend on the phone. Told me I have the rear brakes adjusted too tight. Said I am supposed to back the adjuster off till the shoes are just barely touching, then it will self adjust when I back up and hit the brakes.

As for the engine, he thinks it's just fouled up injectors. That they are most likely hanging open too long or not shutting all the way. I have to get about 5 gallons of fresh gas in the tank. I think I'm going to borrow someones fuel induction kit so I can make sure the injectors get a good cleaning. That wont happen till the end of the week though as the guy needs it for work.

I pulled all the plugs and cleaned them off again. Sure enough, they were saturated with gas. I also re-gapped them temporarily to .060. They were at .042. Should be enough to keep them firing and keep them from getting too saturated. I'm going to get new plugs. Friggin ACDelco plugs in there that some shop installed years ago. That shop btw is the same one that I know F***ed up my AC (long story) . Anyways, I will see what happens later. Gotta run up to the parts store again and get a rearview mirror glue kit... another one. Glued my mirror up the other night and it fell off the next day when I put it on. Stupid crap.

Actually, cleaning them did help. I fixed the brake issue. Poured 2 more cans of seafoam in the tank plus a little more gas. Cleaned it right up. I don't just spray off the plugs, I carefully scuff them with a very thin piece of sandpaper. Scuff the electrode tip to see shiny metal as well. I know it wears on them, but for now it has worked. Got some power back finally. Puttin gas in it now. Solved my own problem...lol .Gawd it feels so damn good to be driving this car again finally.
