I just installed a cobra intake, 76mm MAF, 24# injectors, and a 70mm Throttle Body. I was driving it from my parents house where I did the install and I am having problems.

The main thing is the car is studdering/bucking. The is a loss of power when it does that. I do hear a high pitched noise that actually sounds like a blow off valve. This noise happens everytime I press the gas. My temp gauge, voltage gauge, and oil pressure gauge all read normal. My Fuel pressure is set at 40psi with the vacume off. My timing is at 8*(for the nitrous). For plugs I am using autolite 24's gapped at .035 (for the nitrous). I am using 93 octane also.

I really need your help now.

Alright its 1:14am and I just checked all the vacume lines and they are all secure. Also I just double checked my spark plug wires and they were all where they are supposed to be.

Any other suggestions?

DId you try disconnecting the battery and then restarting it? Its hard to diagnose. Did you pull the distributor to do the install? If so, did you put it back in the right way? That could cause some issues like you describe.

I had the battery disconnected the whole time I did the install. I did pull the distributer and lost my position, but I messed with it by turning the distributer a little bit at a time until my car actually started. I then used a timing light and set it at 8*. If the light says 8* is it right? Or can it say 8* and still be off since I lost my mark on the distributer?

It can be a tooth or so off. Pull the distributor and the #1 spark plug. Have a friend turn the motor over by hand while you stick your finger in the spark plug hole, you need to turn the motor until you feel air coming out (if you turn it too slow you won't feel it) once you feel it coming out turn it until the air stops... that is TDC. It should also show 0* on the balancer at this point. Now re-install the distibutor making sure that the rotor is pointed at the number 1 plug on the cap. If you line up the tiny groove on the distributor and the block it will be close. The #1 plug on the cap will end up very close to the intake. Once you get it, lock it down and reinstall the spark plug. You can then re-time it to get the advance you want. Hope that helps...

8* is 8*, your NOT a "tooth off". No such thing actually, unless your talking about not having enough twist in the distributer to get the proper timing you want w/o having interference issues.

Your issue sounds like a bad vac leak. Re-check your entire install..

Yea that high pitched noise is almost a dead give away for a vac leak. But it doesnt have to be your vaccum lines. Check the TB and the gasket between the upper and lower manifold, etc. Get a can of carb cleaner and spray around till you hear the motor rev and you will find the problem. Or you can stick a piece of vaccum hose to your ear and have someone rev the motor to look for the problem. Or you could try a combination of both. I wouldent worry about that stuff that late. Go to sleep and try it in the morning. Your mind will be fresher.

Well since its raining I have a little more time. I jut took it for a ride and it is still hesitating. It seems like it does it while the engine is under stress. I was driving up a hill in a high gear at a low speed. (third gear at like 25mph) and it bucked really bad. Once I got to the top though it pulled real hard and all the sympoms went away. I think the high pitched noise might be my K&N filter. I was reving it and I heard the noise comming from the filter area. So I took the off and re-tightened everything. I still hear the noise but I can only think its the filter.

Oh and one more thing. I noticed that my RPMs are hanging a little bit. When I come to a stop I put it in Neutral or depress the clutch and they hang out at 1200 for about 2-3 seconds.

I forgot to mention above that the Check Engine light is on also.

Oh, Paul, I'm so ashamed

deadly97snake -- what you're describing is exactly the symptoms I had when one of my plugs was cracked down the insulator and it was arcing directly to the block. Bad hesitation/stuttering at low speeds, and it would go away if you go the RPM up. A misfiring plug *really* fakes out the computer. So I'd say check all the plugs carefully, let it idle in a dark room if you can and try to see if you notice any arcing at the end of the boots.

Good luck.

This sounds like a logical explaination but the car was running great before the install and as soon as I finished the probelms started. I didn't take off any plug wires from the plugs during anytime of the install. So I don't know how that could've happened.

When I took my upper off the other day, I forgot to tighten 1 bolt in the front. It was a lound whistle sound. Make sure all the bolts are tight.

Give me a break Dave... it was 2:14AM!!! I saw the post and tried to think of something to help the guy out even though I was practically comatose at that point. It could STILL be a timing problem though as if the timing is far off it will hesistate and shutter under load... but it does sound like a vacuum problem too.

vacuum and exhaust leaks cause that stuff to happen. i was having it pretty badly and i did a tune up and long and behold, the old plugs were the culprit. the plugs get messed up when adjusting the timing for a while and not getting it right.

Update

Well I reset the computer today and I also found that the electrical connection that connects to the Mass air sensor was unplugged. I put it together and it seems to run fine. I hope that was it and I don't have t worry about it anymore, so I can finally try my nitrous kit that I've had since Christmas in 2002!

You laughing at me? You making fun of me? You wanna fight? HUH?

J/K I can't believe it either. I really thought I checked it though. I guess not. I'm glad it running better. I'm gonna put some miles on it before I decide to take it to the track. Just to make sure.
