Anybody have any experience with the other brands , motive, richmond or yukon ? I've heard/read some of these are no good or noisy etc... Time to replace gears and bearings.

I did find some Ford 3.73 gears but I'm not sure how'd they work. I have a 2800 stall torque converter.

Any input very much appreciated

I doubt if there's much of a difference at all between Ford Racing and the aftermarkets. Sometimes they're even the same thing in a different box, as some specialty companies are subcontractors to the OEMs.

I think any of them would work just fine. Anyone complaining that a particular brand is noisy probably didn't install them correctly. If you don't spend the time to get the backlash and pinion depth right, any gear set will be noisy.

Yeah, that's funny you should mention that. I got an email from Tom at Supersix and I mentioned this him, mentioning the the most common three, Richmond, Yukon and motive . Tom mentioned a brand called Pro 5. I have not ran into them yet. Maybe I'll search for those to see what impression they leave me with. I told him i've heard some bad news from some people using the motives regarding noise but I said it could be because they didn't install them right. ha,ha ! , no kidding, that's what I told him.

I guess you and I were thinking along the same lines. I'll give it some thought and just get some. I'm just so use to using Ford Racing as is Tom so he didn't know either yet. I'm going to buy the complete bearing kit while I'm at it and have everything apart.

I saw some guy selling some used ones but I won't even go there, not when it comes to gears.

Thanks for the reply, sort of sets my mind at ease knowing that someone else is thinking along the same lines regarding brand and that if they had noise, they most likely didn't get them installed correctly.

Howdy
Did some checking around. It appears that Motive/Pro 5.0 are not the best gears and Even installed by a professional mechanic the Motive gears whine. The mechanic stated that the Ford Gears and Motive gears installed had the backlash Set properly. He will now put the Ford gears back on. I could just be that the ring and pinion don't mesh properly and therefore aren't as good as Ford.

So that leaves Richmond & Yukon to look into. This Ford Mechanic also said to Be careful since there are not many companies that make their own gears and That they may be buying them from the same place and having their name put on Them. Since I can get Ford 3.73 gears from Ford I may be trying them out.

-FYI

I have a set of SVO 4.10 gears in my 7.5. Did not know they were no longer available. If you search Ford Ranger sites, you may get more info, as the 7.5 is commonly updated in Ranger trucks.

I have a Motive 4.56 that I personally set up and it is fine. At least as quiet as the above SVO that I also installed myself.
