That is the fundamental truth -- there are only two factors affecting premiums: risk, and competition (or lack thereof). One of the problems I also see is that insurance companies are separating customers into smaller and smaller niches. This contradicts the concept of pooled risk.if there were more insurance companies out there with less overhead it would be much cheaper for everyone. alas that will never be possible here.
You don't want to follow that logic path too far -- at least not out loud. Pretty soon that will make it to the lawmakers, who will decide that there's no point in having 400 horsepower, since you can't ever use it. If you can break any speed limit in 4 seconds ... that might be considered overkill.
