Hey I have just started my HCI install and have gotten a few problems....1st...tomorow morning I am gonna put the car at tdc on the number 1 cyl. do I can remove the dist. but I dont have a socket big enough for that huge bolt on the harmoncic balancer to turn the engine over by hand....What size do I need to turn the engine over by hand....2nd....I broke 1 injector cap on removal and I cant find any at any auto parts stores....they want me to buy a new injector for 80 bucks:( Does anyone have 1 or 2 spare caps they could overnight me? I will pay you 10 bucks through paypal...I would really appreciate it or any idea on where else to get one, .......3rd I left the fuel rails in place w/oi the injectors becuase I dont have a fuel line disconnector to get the two lines off of it. Can I just keep the rails in there and work around them? ....4th the AC compressor that I need to move out of the way (according to the haynes) is listed as being on the left but I know the AC pully is on the right? Do I just take the pulley off and unblot it and move it aside? I think thats it for now but I am sure more will pop up. I am down to the lower intake and am gonna get started tommorow morning. so wish me luck and thanks for the responses:)

I'm not sure I'd worry much about setting anything to TDC before removing the distributor. It's quite easy to get it set correctly when you stab it back in at the end. I don't remember the bolt size, but I used a specially made crank socket from comp cams so I could turn the crank both directions.

You can maneuver the rails quite a bt with the lines attached, but be careful not to drip fuel on your fender, it's not so good for the paint. You can get the disconnect tools (also called A/C disconnect tools) at the auto store for very little money.

For the A/C -- I removed the power steering pulley (to access the bolt) and then unbolted the bracket as a whole and tied it off to the body of the car with some wire to keep it out of the way.

Good luck!!!

Dave

The balancer bolt is 15/16th. Use a socket and long breaker bar to turn the motor. Leave the fuel rail intact if you don't have the tool. Like Dave said you can pick one up for under $6 at your local auto parts store. I usually just unbolt the A/C and power steering bracket and place it off to the side. I don't unbolt them from the bracket. I guess I'm lazy.

Thanks guys....I am gonna hopefully get everything else off tommorw...and reasemble on sun and mon... ampperformance sent me one valve cover:( so I have to wait till tuesday to finsh:(...but come tuesday night I cross my fingers and see how my first HCI went......anyone else about the injectors? I am kinda stuck here.

Got a Napa close by??? these pintle caps will work....its very common and cost like 4.00 per seal kit...as you see pictured...different color, but they will work. get a few kits, the mothers crack easy... :bang: and be careful putting them on...you get to the very bottom, and "crack" the mothers snap...

the Green/Yellow ones are what you need....and work the balls...lube the o-rings with some Vaseline upon re-assy, same with the injector o-rings...makes disassy in the future a snap..

the bolt at the middle is the tough one if you dont remove the pulley...you WILL have to grind a wrench "thinner" to snake it in and remove it...

Got an Autozone close by??? this puller can be rented for like 20.00 deposit and kept for a couple day....or just buy it, I did...

Pulley puller in action...much easier than the wrench trick...been there done that.. :D

Awesome, thanks for the pics, I am about to head out there now. I did happen to go to auto zone and rent a pulley puller and a harmonic balancer puller. I dont know if there are any napa's close by but I am about to get the phone book and check. When I turn the engine over just check number 1 cyl for a puff of air and then Im good to take the distributor out, just need to make sure I mark the caps postion right? Thanks again guys I will try to get some pics for you when Im half done and fully done.

Help I cant get this damn power stee4ring puller to work!!!@# I tried to do it by the pic but it isnt working. Anyone have any ideas?
If it works like the one I got (I didn't get mine from Autozone, I got it from Harbor Freight, but it looks nearly identical), there's a threaded rod that you screw into the center of the power steering pump axle. Then there is a nut with a ridge on it that you screw onto that rod until it's pretty close to the pulley. Then there is a device that consists of two half-circles with "teeth" on both ends that fits around the end of the nut and the end of the pulley, and a ring that goes around the two halves to keep them together. Then you use one wrench to hold the threaded rod steady, and another wrench to turn the nut so that it pulls on the pulley to remove it. Make sense? Didn't think so :D.

It's hard to explain, the pulley puller should have come with instructions with pictures.

Hey, you never said what H/C/I combo you are runnning? BY the way , I just did this swap and you should be fine, just take your time, its going to take longer than you expect. If you have any other problems or need any general info just search for a few of my threads, they have a ton of information. Good luck!

I got the new Trickflow setup for 350/370. I am actually stuck on the head bolts now, thanks for the help on the power pulley. I am out to dinner with my GF parents now but I will try and post some pics tonight.

Stuck on the head bolts? That should be easy :p :D. Just be damn careful lifting those E7's over the fenders, they're heavy mofos...
