First it started by shutting... then when i hit a bump, ide hear POP and it would be unlatched... now i can keep shutting it and it wont latch shut at all??? is the striker adjustible?? is the part on the hatch broke???
I had the same problem on my GT. Every time I'd hit a bump the damn hatch would pop open. A simple couple of adjustment's on the striker and problem solved. It's basically a trial & error adjustment to find the right spot. If that dosn't work move on to the latch itself as it's probably shot.
My wife's 93 GT wouldn't latch one day. The striker was lined up perfectly. It turns out there was a poly coating on it that had broke off. It makes the diameter slighly bigger, and it was needed to latch. I found her broken one and put it back on, and only had to wrap some electrical tape around it. Works perfect.
ya, def. check the coating, i never realized it was there until a few days ago when i noticed that my hatch has never closed right. a little electrical tape and presto, shuts fine now. 50resto also sells new strikers if you want to go that route.
A trip to the local auto parts supply will get the plastic bushing that fits on the striker bolt. A little wrench work with a torqx bit get the striker bolt out and the washer off. Once you screw the washer off, drill it out so that it slides back on. Then you can use the $1.98 bushing that is in the body parts section of the auto parts store.
Electrical tape!
Come on guys what happened to FORD and MUSTANG pride!
Fix it right.
No wonder so many people out there call the FOX Mustangs "Ruststangs".
not to hijack the thread, but what size torqx bit is required to take the striker out? i was curious, as i saw the bushings in autozone the other day. i just needed a temp. fix, and the electrical tape was the quickest route.
