Help... Hole in bottom of my tranny!

Ok, so I was just installing my Mac O/R h-pipe today and noticed that there is a hole in the bottom of my tranny. First off I assume the hole does not belong there with some type of plug because the hole looks irregular (see pic) . I was hoping someone could explain to me how I was driving with the hole un-noticed. Shouldn't I at least have a problem shifting?

The hole is big enough for me to stick my finger in, but there are no puddles, no fluid leaking under the car and the car still shifts fine. Also do you think Ford will cover this under the powertrain warranty?

Damn that's crazy....I think you'll be fine though if she shifts smooth and you hear no noises...

is that in the tranny or the bellhousing. looks like the bellhousing to me but the pic is not the best.

Honestly I don't know anything about transmissions. Not sure if it is the tranny or the bell housing. Can anyone else answer that for me based on the picture?

that hole is supposed to be there. even the T-45 has a hole there, it's just shaped different.

yeah, i saw it too when i was swapping midpipes on my 97 Gt and it had a whole there also..... nothing to worry bout.

Probably intended to be a drain for water or oil (in the case of a rear main seal leak...) and perhaps even part of a venting arrangement for the bellhousing.

Well thats a big relief. I was thinking "I just installed my mid-pipe and now I won't be able to drive the car for at least a week while its in the shop" Thanks guys

it's an air hole, part of the housing for the clutch, where do you think all the dust is suppose to go when the clutch wears off?

thats designed to be there. Its inspection or air hole I was told by Ford.

Mu T-45 have hole. don't look exactry like it, but it almost look as if its a crack, because of rough casting edge

It is actually a "weep hole" to drain any oil that may escape from the rear seal or the transmission. The cotter pin rattles around to keep the hole open.
