Help I am Burning Oil...New Motor

That is exactly what it does, the TB and PCV hose doesnt have any moisture or oil at all in them. The baffles are on the valve covers also, but it smokes at start up, and then more at idle, after it was warmed up.

Unforntunately, it is sounding like valve guides.
I have never had to diagnose this on one of my cars, so I am not sure if there is an inspection process to verify this is the issue, before removing the heads.
I think there was a vac test that could be done though.

Another possibility is the lower intake gasket slipping during installation of the lower intake manifold. This essentially can cause a vac leak through the lifter valley.
I have seen very large amounts of oil in my intake due to this happening.

Is there a large amount of oil inside your intake?

I wish you luck

no, there isnt oil in the intake that i can see. i dont think the gaskets moved i used a piece of all thread on the corners to line the intake up with the gasket then i siliconed the hell out of it, does anyone know how to diagonse if the valve guides are bad?

The heads only have about 25k on them since they were rebuilt ie reground and supposed to have new stuff installed, is this common or did i get some bad parts/machinework? Thanks again

could be any factor you mentioned...with 25xxx miles and not knowing who built the engine, how they put it together, what brand parts they ACTUALLY used (sometimes you don't get exactly what you paid for) it's very difficult to assign blame after that many miles. I've seen and heard of serveral engines poping earlier in there lives, sometimes never finding out why it even happened.

me and my dad put the motor together, they were supposed to have all new valves and seats ect in the head. The shop could of screwed me but i dunno. i need to get this fixed cuz i am sick of seeing smoke when i am sitting at a stop light...

so pull the VC off and look around.

What exactly should i be looking for i dont exactly know what the valve seals and stuff looks like i just bolted it on the motor, i didnt get down there and look around which i prob should of now i am kicking myself in the ass:bang:

I don't see how you could see bad valve guides.

I have found some vacuum reading cards that suggest that bad valve guides will show as a 1-2" fluctuation in the vac reading at idle. There are other factors that could cause the vac to fluctuate, but I think the vac fluctuation paired with the oil control issue suggests valve guides.

I will post one of these guides on my website later, maybe tomorrow.

I have eliminated the pcv as a source of my oil problems, and now feel that my valve guides are bad as well. I feel your pain.

Thanks for all the help if it smokes a little at start up and at idle that would indicate bad valve guides or bad seals? It doesnt smoke when i am crusing but when it idles and has been sitting for a while( stoplight) it will start to smoke. So if this is the problem then i will find some Gt-40 heads or somthing and swap them out...
