The original clutch cable on my 84 snapped the cable friday, so i go and get a new replacement one from autozone. I get it put in and the pedal was really, really stiff, i thought i was getting a leg workout driving. Anyways i am shifting and it snaps, by this time i am pissed. So i get out and the plate that attaches the cable to the firewall pulled off the plastic piece and the cable was separated from the firewall groment and the bracket on the cable was broken off. So what could cause this?? Help me please..

The cause....would be the cheap autozone cables. Do a search and you'll find the best cables are either an official OEM cable or a frpp cable. Just whatever you do...dont dish out the extra money from a dealership for the cable as they can be found for 1/2 the price or better elsewhere.

Get a OEM Ford cable. If it`s too expensive at the dealer, look at Ford Racing part #M-7553-A302.

It`s the non adjustable OEM cable that the dealer sells, but it also comes with a new clutch fork.

Summit Racing sells it for like $39.00.
