help installing new door handles

it's the first time installing new handles on my 91 vert.I read on here that someone suggested using some screws and nuts instead of the rivets.I've tried the rivets-may be installing them wrong but no luck.Any suggestions would be helpful.Thanks-stockstangs

I used carriage bolts (the ones with the rounded heads) and nylon lock nuts on mine.Still haven't come loose to this day.

Those work, too, but for the past three door handles I've put on Foxes, I've just used a good flathead machine screw with a lock washer and a nylon lock nut. The advantage of a machine screw over a carriage bolt is that you can hold the thing in place better with a screwdriver and get the thing cinched down a bit tighter and more easily than perhaps you could with a carriage bolt. I dunno, just my experience with 'em.

IMO, rivets are for people obsessed with making everything OEM. Bolts/washers/nuts are the way to go because hey, sometimes you gotta take that stuff apart later on and drilling rivets out SUCKS.

I like the way thoes turned out, looks more factory than carriage bolts do.
