my map lights won't dim after the door is closed and i suspect a switch but its not in the usual place in the door jam.the schematic doesn't show me squat.is it built into the outside door handle mechanism?i pulled the fuse so they don't stay on.this is a convertible and it is p---ing me off !!! the map lights are built into the rear view mirror.can somebody tell me where in the hell is the switch?

the knob is ok and that is not why they're are on.on my way to work this morning my wife opened the passenger door and the map lights which are on the rear view mirror came on and never shut off.they are on some sort of a timer but i think its the door jamb switch but its not there!i'm dumbfounded and am thinking its somehow built into the outside door handle.i also have a mercury mountaineer and it also does not have dorr jamb swiches.however online stores show a door jamb switch.where is it?

I just bought an 03 vert last week and yesterday I noticed a switch, either in the door or on the car...I can't remember. It's freestanding and very noticeable.

after much research i found that there is a switch on the door handle within the door and it is the courtesy light switch.it's not in the door jamb.my car has the ford alarm and safety system so that when someonetries to open the door the interior lights go on.on my vert the interior lights are on the bottom of the rear view mirror.the part No. is sw5195 and the ford no.is F7DZ13752AA and it costa about 20bucks.the door panel has to come off to replace it.thanks for input from all you guys.
