Alright...I tore down my spare 302 and it looks pretty good. I've decided to go .030 over. The parts I know I will be running as of now are Thumper heads and a TFS Stage 1 cam. Im waiting to see what the BBK intake does on the dyno, if not good i'll go with the Street Heat intake. I have the FMS double roller timing chain and im gonna put in new bearings and seals. I dont know what pistons I should get. I'm probably gonna keep the stock rods in there cause im pretty low on cash and trying to save in a few areas where it should be ok. I was looking at the TFS Forged pistons for a .030 motor but am wondering if i could maybe find them a little cheaper. Also, whats the stock rod length, cause I noticed on the Summit website that they have different rod length for those pistons. Thanks!

I am actually doin the same exact thing to an extra motor i have at home. Im getting the block machined and im going to use a dss .30 over piston and rod kit. with a steeda # 18 cam, ported e7's and a ported stock manifold. I really dont have the money for heads or an intake right now so the stockers will have to do. My thinking was to get a real solid bottom end built at first.....and then throw on better heads and an intake when i get the cash. i think your setup will be pretty sick tho! good luck man

Im just looking to figure a few more things out right now. I guess i want to find a cheap piston, but not a bad piston. So the cheapest good piston, haha. Im gonna hafta search around at prices and what people have experienced.

Keep the stock rods.. have ARPs installed and the machine shop will check and resize the big end.. Pistons?? KBs are cheaper than forged, but Forged are needed to spray over 150. I wouldnt put cast pistons in ( the cheapest) get the pistons that have the low tension piston rings... looking in the cat... get the 90-92 pistons. actually price out the whole work and look into the Kits they offer... could work out better for you?? Just a thought.

Just me....................

You'll need to have the assembly rebalanced as well. Probe FPS series pistons come in right around $300 and they are nice. SCAT offers a stock replacement cast rod for under $200, when you compare having the ARP bolts installed and the rods resized and the pistons pressed off it may be a better option.
