I drive this car on the street often, and I want it to be faster. Its a '67 289 with holley 600 vac. sec carb, edelbrock performer intake, hooker headers, crane ignition, and dual exhuast. Everything else is just stock rebuild (rebuilt about 5000 miles ago). I dont want to have to change anything besides the cam, lifters and springs. I want to keep my stock stall converter and heads. Here are 10 cams I have found that either people have suggested or I found on my own.

Xe262! Stock heads = dual pattern. Horrible exhaust ports need extra lift and duration.

Agreed. The Ford exhaust ports can use all the help they can get.
I would also suggest a dual pattern, favoring the exhasust

out of the ones listed... the best choices are the Ford Racing or the XE Cams...

If you choose to go with the Ford Racing... look around at Summit or P.A.W. they sale their house-brand Cams with the same specs at cheaper prices... I'm running a cam with those same specs and I'm happy with it...

I have about the same set up as you see my sig. I just put a cam in mine back in August. I like my cam but it eats gas like a mother or that might be just me getting on it at every light. mine is a 214/224 lift is .472/.496 this is on stock springs the only thing I changed out was the cam and the lifters. I want my old intake back on I hate this open plane. when I get more money saved up a new performer is going on. :D
Mine is a daily driver so I fill up about every 2 days I put about 40 or 50 miles on it day. I just turned the big 174,000 :nice: :rlaugh:

Duration, duration, duration.

Lift is important, but duration is more important in the Ford small block.

Do not believe all that is read in the magazines. Let me dig up my specs and I will put them up.

Keep lift no more than .525 and go for that duration, duration, duration.

Those valves need to stay open as long as possible.

I completely agree. The small heads need more duration, but you have to support them with the right hardware if you go with the bigger cam: l headers, 2.5" duals, good carb and intake (Weaind Xcellerator or Edelbrock RPM), good springs.

I ran a 230/235 degree duration cam with .510/.515 lift in a 302 and it was great. Good idle, great power across the range. I started off with stock heads and then had ported GT-40's.
