my 69 came with a 302 and what I thought was a C4. C4 apparently came with a 11 bolt tranny pan, and this one has 14. The only ID codes I could find were on the passanger side of the trans. Attached is the picture.

I think its an AOD, from this website - Ford Transmission Spotter's Guide .: Articles

Too easy. The FMX has a cast-iron center housing. The C4 is aluminum. The FMX was factory-installed in the 69 if it had a 351 engine. What is the original engine for your car?

The original engine (according to the ID/VIN tag) was the I6. Thats what confuses me because from what I understand the I6 came with a C4. Since the motor has been swapped to 302, I can only assume that the trans has been swapped as well; I ordered a C4 tranny pan and it obviously didnt fit because it was too small.

So is it an FMX tranny?

Doesn't look like an AOD to me. Does a magnet stick to the trans case ? If so its provably an FMX.

A magnet does stick to the trans case, but how would that make it a FMX?

Magnets don't stick to aluminum which is what AOD and C4 trans cases are made of.

C-4--transmission, tailhousing and bellhousing are aluminum with removeable bell. FMX--- transmission main case is iron with removeable aluminum bell, tail housing is aluminum. C-6, all aluminum without removeable bell, ditto for the AOD.
