Help me ID these wiring connectors, main harness.

Ok I'm gathering parts for a 289 EFI swap. I have gathered and labeled almost everything except I cant figure out where the first two connectors are going to connect to (left to right) I know the last two are for self test input.

Im doing research on:

www.fordfuelinjection.com

Thanks!

No guarantees, but here's my best shot.

Wire color Function
purple-yellow = Brake fluid level
green-red = unknown
red-white = temp sending unit
tan-yellow = TFI wiring
white-red = oil pressure sender
white-purple = cruse control ???
red-lt blue = starter relay or cruse
control ???

Im currently using these digrams, but colors are not matching up.
The wiring scheme changed dramatically in 91, with a completely different fuel pump circuit and different colors for some of the wires. The color scheme I posted is from an 89 Mustang, so I can't guarantee their accuracy.

Does the harness have two white connectors going through the rubber groment into the fire wall, those are the airbag connectors if it is than it is a 90 harness i am working on swapping this into my car as we speak if you need any help just hit me up. Those are the body connectors that give the harness power during crank, crank/run, run only ect. If you need some help i might be able to help you just pm me, also other people on this site are very knowledgeable ie jrichker, tmoss hissin and michael yount just to name a few. They have helped me a lot. just let me know what ya need

also the diagrams you find online are mainly for a 91-93 harness since that is what the FMS harness is. those diagrams for it are useless since nothing corresponds to the 89-90 harnesses.

No at the computer end of the harness is has the Green plug ( I know what all these wires are for, a Gray plug (unknown), a relay and body groung wire.

I have been through all the diagrams listed above and none match, parts of all the diagrams match certain parts of my main harness, such as mass air sensor and coil, and others don't.

Maybe this will help, someone help me, my spout wire is yellow/green, but the distributor doesn’t have a black/orange as the diagrams (diagrams with my correct spout wire color) suggest. Baro sensors, mass air sensors and coil wires are matching up with some diagrams. I’m starting to wonder if this harness is off a mustang 5.0 and not a truck or crown vic. I have emailed the seller for the ID of the harness with no response as of yet. I'm getting very frustrated.

Thanks for all your help. I'm gonna take a breather and give another try.

I know what almost every plug is for on the main and fuel injection harness, and I have almost everything.

I still need to purchase the Mass air sensor, O2 sensors and O2 harness and an IAC Valve. My thoughts are if I can trust this diagram from www.fordfuleinjection.com to be correct even though my wiring colors don’t match up, and wire it up according to the diagram.

My brown connector is actually gray (seen in photo in 1st post) and my black connector is black. So what do you think, should I just wire according to this diagram and not worry about the wire colors?

Absoutly not those are different wires your harness is either a 89 or 90, the harness are slightly different from the 91-93 harness which is what the diagrams on fordfuelinjection are for. If you post what color wires go to the plugs and which plug they go to i can tell you where they go. When you are putting them in the car just double check where they go, i just finished my EFI swap tonight, and i used a 90 harness. Either post in this post or PM me with the information and i will help you with it to the best of my ability.

Also the green connector isnt the same either. Since you dont have the 4 white connectors( 2 on each side) goin through the rubber garment (into the fire wall) these are the airbag connectors, your harness is a 89, 90 is the first year they were intergreated into the main harness.

I have attempted to match this harness to the all the AutoZone mustang diagrams. The AutoZone site lists all the diagrams from 87 up. In the next few days I'm going to look up the crown vic, mark and truck 5.0 diagrams and see if any of these match my harness. I’m not wiring anything with out figuring out what harness I have (and diagram), plus I can't really start till my wife and I move.

Black Plug:

Blue / Green
White / Purple (Brown?)
White / Red
Solid Red
Red / White
Gray / Red
Tan / Green

Gray Plug:

Red / Green
White / Pink
Red / Dark Blue
Solid Purple
Tan / Yellow

Green Plug:

Haven’t stripped the old tape yet.

Any help greatly appreciated. If anyone needs more details on deciphering which harness I have please post. Thanks.

If you knew the exact model year the harness came from, you would be miles ahead.

Ford uses a standard color code scheme where a wire color relates to a circuit number or function. I don't know if the color codes never change, or if they change whenever there is a major revison in the wiring like there was in 91.

If you knew the year, you could use the wiring color scheme for that year to help figure out what the remaining wires were for.

Exactly! If I cant figure what model/yr this harness is from, I think Im gonna take another $50 gamble and buy another harness of ebay, from a seller stating exactly what yr and model. Im not pushed for time and appreciate everyones help tring to ID this harness.

Does anyone suggest a year/model non-mustang harness I can easily find in a yard locally? Mustang yards in my area charge way to much, I would be better off Ebay shopping. Thanks.

Go go figure #5 89-90 5.0
That is the 90 specific diagram for a 5.0 mass air car. I just did the swap, it wasnt that hard. Actually the wiring took about an hour, just to show it worked i just got done driving 50 miles with no problems except my IAC is sticking but that is a different matter.

Anyways there are only 5 required splices to get an efi car to work.
Red/green -wire goes to the EEC relay- Crank/Run
Red/blue -goes to the distributor- Crank only- S side of silenoid works
Black/Orange-Battery
Black-Ground, mine had some weird ass connector on it i cut it off and put a different connector on it.
On the green plug by the EEC there is a grey/yellow wire this goes to to a run only source, it heats up the o2 sensors, use thick wire when you do this because they draw a lot of current.

I will check all of my notes and go through the rest of the connectors after i sober up tomorrow BTW happy New years

You can also get a 9V battery and hook the red/green wire the black/orange to a postive side and put the ground the other side to the negative on the battery and hear it click on, just to show it works.

harness

I must have the same harness, I'm having the same problems. I had a complete donor can and sent the harness to windsor fox back in sept. he hasnt been able ot finish it yet? I get all kinds of excuses from them. I got a 90 harness from ebay and a 02 sensor harness from IST. Any luck with what gots where? I am trying ot figure out the fuel pump circut , have a green adn grey connector near the 60 pin. and 2 small white pligs near the mass air and 02 connector, along with the black adn grey connector near the wiper motor.

Help????
