Oops on the thread title. I do know how to spell. ID

I started my car this morning and the first thing I heard was a loud knock from my car. Its a stock 302 and I plan on getting a 351 sometime soon so I let it warm up. The knock went away quickly. Within 2 minutes. There isn't even a faint knocking noise. I was worried of course, so I went online and looked up things that would make it knock. I read that an exhaust leak can make it knock... and I did rail my brand new exhaust last night on a speed bump.

I let the car idle for about 20minutes and there wasn't really any strange noises that were out of place for idle except for a very faint whine. I didn't think anything of it so I drove the car today. (I know I am a dumbass) Car drove smooth as ever. Nothing was out of place.

Any Idea what this knock might of been?

Car is an 88 Mustang GT with very minor bolt ons. O/R X-Pipes.

Thanks for the help.

Ok, um thats the thing... My car sounds and is driving/acting completly normal now so it isn't an exhaust leak I don't think.

Just did an oil change switched to Mobil 1 synthetic HM, from Castrol GTX HM. My lifters use to click before I switched to synthetic when the car was warming up, but after the oil change they stopped completely.

I had thought it could be a collapsed lifter as well, But would that return to normal once oil got back in to the lifter?

I am planning on going with some 1:7 proform rockers and new pushrods because the stock rockers make a little noise. Not really noticable but I don`t like it!

Yea I am thinkin about pulling the top end apart in the next few week and doing rockers and springs... maybe a cam (if paycheck is right.) So if it is the lifters... no big deal.

I put crane springs in mine when I installed the heads. I have pretty much the same plans as you! Those paychecks just aren`t enough so I build it one piece at a time...

you wont stop there! that 125 will go to a 150 then 175 then 200! Then a bigger stronger motor with more nitriious! But still if it isnt making the noise anymore then f it. My 4 banger does that sound (well it sounds like what your describing) sometimes and i dont worry about it the oil is at a good level.peace
