so im trying to get all my parts ready for my shortblock. with this being my 1st build i have lots of questions. so im hoping u guys can help me out.

im going with an aftermarket block (dart sportsman) so i was wondering if some of my stock peices are still going to work.. can i reuse my stock oil pan? i notice alot of guys dont, so im guessing ill be getting a new one. which one should i look at. im running stock k member if that matters. lifters? just bought new ones, but they are stock style. need to return these? timing cover?

last question for now.. is my cam. im gonna use what i have for now, which is an ecam. will get something custom once i decide where the motor is going. so can i use same pushrods? things changing is stock heads to twisted wedge and it being a 347. if that matter, so will i have to measure anyways? i think thats all i can think of. but if u guys have anything to add plzz do. thxs.

For oil pan options, I would check out Brian at www.adperformance.com

They sell the dart blocks and oil pans, and he can tell you what would be best for you.

You will need to measure, of course. My guess, is that it will be in the 6.7-6.75" range.

Maybe call dart and ask them....when I have a question about something specific like that i always go to the manufacturer. This also gives you a chance to see how good their customer service is.

Email or call Brian at www.adperformance.com

He will tell you in an instant if the oil pan will fit the dart block or not

i wouldn't even mess with the stock oil pan i would just go with a canton or similar 7-quart oil pan.

your going to need to measure your pushrods. your doing a dart block and you want to reuse stock stuff? not a good idea IMO. if your going dart, do everything right the first time and get all new parts. decide on your cam now, i wouldn't put that e303 in a 347.

yea looks like im just gonna get a new pan and some lifters anyway. but i was told i can use my timing cover.

as for the cam im not sure yet. just was going to throw it in so i can drive it. it wont be until next year sometime i get something (power adder). and im not really sure on what i want. was looking at superchargers, but turbos arent that much more. just worried the turbo will give me more problems. but pretty much i still wanna drive it.

thxs again 5spd GT im gonna see if he'll respond to an email. then if not ill give him a call.

E cam is worthless with a 347. Do it right the first time. Why shell out that much cash for a dart block when you arent gonna spin that thing to the moon? If you are only using an e cam why even have the dart block?

What rotating assembly are you putting in there? I hope it is something better than an eagle economy set up.

Call Anderson Ford Motorsport for a cam...you wont be disappointed.

Take your TIME! Dont rush this or it is going to cost twice as much in the end. Good set ups take time to figure out, dont throw it together. Push Rods will need to be measured. Dart blocks also have to be machined...EVERYTHING needs to be machined. The lifter bores can be bored/honed to whatever specs you want. Get a decent set of them. What cam bearings are you going to use? You can set up needle bearings instead and have a 55mm cam cut.

I am not trying to be an ass, but PLEASE do some homework before throwing crap together. I am only speaking from experience here.

For a good dart set up you should be looking to spend probably around 6-8K.

its cool i know what u guys are saying. but the thing is i wanna drive the car. no way can i leave it down for that long. unless..how long can a shortblock sit on a stand?? thing is i ordered a cam from Jay Allen through Jim. but i told him to hold off cuz i wasnt sure. i didnt wanna get something made for a s/c and then go out and buy a turbo kit. my original plan was a vortech and some how drifted.

believe me im not rushing. im putting alot of money into this. like i said the shortblock is being built by fordstrokers. which im sure he uses coasthigh/probe stuff. he knows what i want, so that part is taking care of. every other part is for me to look up. i have a set nib trickflow heads and a track heat intake. and a bunch of other parts. bought these before i even decided to get a new motor. then decided on a new block, then decided an aftermarket block. now im just looking at what i need to make it all work.

not trying to be cheap, i seriously dunno what parts will work. thats why i asked. this is for real my 1st time putting something together. if i have to buy such and such parts, fine no problem. im just looking for help.

if it needs to stay on the stand then thats what ill do. seriously im in no rush. i wanna do it right. and thats pretty much why i went with a dart block. cuz what i want will split a stocker.
