So instead of having my head timeserted I'm just going to get some Patriot heads and these cams ?!?! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/COMP...TS-102600_W0QQitemZ130127689752QQcmdZViewItem

I have no idea if they are a good choice? any opinions?

I'm thinking a PP intake plenum and 75mm PP Throttle Body (75 the right size?).
I don't really want to spend more on other brands because I'm not sure it's worth it and I'm going to try to do this on a budget....

Mac offraod H as well

My main question....I'm thinking I have a little left in the budget for right now.....Would I want to spring for a new intake manifold or shorty headers? which will i see more gains with? I don't want long tubes because I'll be doing the install myslef.......

Am i going to need a tune with all this stuff? What does a shop usually charge for one.....in the palm springs desert where I'm at there are no dynos...So i will have to drive the car a bit without the tune to get it there if it's really needed..
Thanks for puttin up with all my newb questions guys

BTW....the car is basically a clear slate.....flow mufflers only

Some people will give you crap because of your head choice (patriot). The cams your looking at are good street/strip cams. PP 75mm and plenum is a great combo (I have these). Good luck

side note: Yeah 500 posts!

well, I've dicided against a new intake manifold. Through my research on MF's and here I've been finding that people are losing Torque on N/A cars and only gaining power above 6000rpm or so VS the stock plastic intake. The new Trick Flow Track Heat sure looks nice but, why fix what isn't broke, I guess I'm going to get the shorties.

intake manifold is off and I feel like the project is starting to get more complex.....I've halted working to do more reading up on removing the timing chain cover and to purchase a tool or two it will look like I need. I'm nervous about the whole timing thing/ the proper positioning of the new cams/ and setting the engine TDC.....

Any articles on here from people that have done a head swap? can't find any?

I will be getting the patriot heads with the new springs and valves.....(i guess they're needed for the comp cams i want?!?)... anything else I should buy or just transfer stuff over from the stock heads? I can use the stock timing gear and chain right?

good luck with the Patriot heads... I was debating trying them but the horror stories made me buy Fox Lake II's instead.

So why exactly are you getting new heads? And if your doing heads/cams yourself im pretty sure you'll easily be able to install some long tubes. Save money, dont get the heads. Get yourself the cams (springs optional w/ those, but reccomended), longtubes, matching mid pipes, gears, TB/plenum, SCT tuner, K&N air filter. A lot of people are around 300rwhp w/ that setup. The ported heads are a waste, especially at this stage. That is unless you plan on making a forced induction beast later down the road...

Because the shops around me here in the desert want like 500 for the timesert job....and I have to have my car towed there...

Since I'm planning on modding the car anways....I might as well throw the money into an upgrade....and yes...I'll be doing everything you said...I'm just trying to hammer out the details of what I want....well,... all but the gears (since I'm doing this myself in the garage)

I really want the LT's but I'm scared of what's required to install.....why would it be easier while doing a head swap...? And I'm not planning on getting a tuner..I hope to just go and get the car dynoed and tuned if I can find a good shop near me in so cal

I would just stick with the PI intake and get LTs.

Let me get this straight, instead of timeserting the head for $300 you are going to proceed on a multithousand dollar boondoggle that will probably render your Mustang undriveable and empty your bank account.

Yes you will need a tune

You need to define your goals better and do some reading and searching before making another thread.

People report WAY too many problems with the patriot heads to spend that kind of money on them. Definitely look at fox lake or VT engines stage 2 heads and cams and spend a little more for the piece of mind. Swapping heads is just as a big task, so getting good parts that you know will last is definitely worth it.

However, to make it worth it in my opinion you would have to get a stage 2 head with a stage two cam. And to support this you would need a TB/plenum and exhaust modifications to support the excess flow.

i also went foxlake heads and cams. however, i got blower cams for future application which causes hp loss while na. i also only got a very mellow stage 1 custom cam grind. the combo still picked up 35rwhp na on the dyno. also no low end loss of power at all with the smaller cams.

im very happy with the setup from fox! had it over a year now like this. the small cam might hold back numbers now that im getting the blower at the end of the month. we will see.

YES!!!

I'm going to order up in the next few days....I'm either going with Patriot or STEEN stage II heads...I've talked to enough shops for me personally to feel comftorable with them. I may go with the STEEN though because Patriot is all backed up.

I'm going to go most likely with COMP cams xe 270's.... I am leaving the stock intake manifold as I don't want a loss in power ....I'm going to do a 75mm TB and plenum with CAI...exhaust wise I already ordered a Pro chamber to go with my flow mufflers....I'm not doing long tubes,.....

For the tune though.....(and if this is a stupid question sorry but I'm still kinda new at all this and learning)....here's the situation. I don't have a shop in the area that has a dyno.....I'd have to travel a bit to get to one and fully intend to. But until i find time to do so can I get a fairly accurate tune myself with one of those hand held tuners? I've been told I'll be running very lean once the mods go on and do not want to drive for long distances....making the shops out of distance without a long expensive tow

Id look at getting a mail order tune then, Thats too big of a change. you cant adjust the air and fuel trims on the handheld alone. You would need a dyno tune or the SCT pro racer package.

SCT is probably the best tuning solution for the mustang. Yes, that is it but the pricing doesn't look right. its normally around $800.

I think from what I've found it's offered two ways.....Without a handheld tuner and with......I can't see why I would want the handheld other than to maybe to some additional programming away from home....It looks like the standard one comes with a chip and chip burner instead of handheld....

I'm looking at the sniper too.....but i can't find out enough about it...everyone and their mother has good things to say about SCT
