Either put the stock H pipe on before testing or get some intake mods. Exhaust mods will always make your car run more rich.

Too rich equals less power. What is your A/F ratio? You need to lean your car up with a custom tune or a device such as a Preditor or Super Chips hand held tunner on a dyno. An exhaust system won't make you run any richer but after adding performance components you do need to tune your car. You could pick up 5 to 10rwhp if your running too rich which kind of negates the reason you put on performance parts.....Your A/F should be around 12.5 to 13 IMO.

Youi could also get a adaptive tune placed directly on your EEC from T&J Performance. Just tell them what you want and they can do it.

You could try unhooking a vacuum hose just before the test, if you are just trying to pass. A small amount of unmetered air should lean it out. You are just guessing as to how much though.

what udder bull****.

This thread has nothing to do with making more power. He needs to pass emissions, not go spend another 300 for power. YES exhaust will make your car run more rich. It has been proven time and time again.

and actually NO, his a/f ration should not be in the 12s on a N/A stock motor. It would make more power in the 13s. With running all motor, you can get away with running a tad more lean. With that being said, all motors are different and like different settings/adjustments. My car like 12.8 at WOT even though Im all motor which is a little strange.

Very true! and to pass emissions idle and normal driving A/F should be around 14.7:1

What do you guys think about the K&N FIPK kit? do you think that it is making the car run rich? The smog guy said that it might be that or a bad maf sensor. I have no clue though. I also know that i definately need new spark plugs... (I still have the originals with 50000 miles on them)

Thanks for the help! Please keep it coming.
John

what x pipe is it. i work for a smog referee and we have not received any notification of a legal h or x pipe. the magna flow cats have been CARB approved however you must prove that you stock cats have failed in order to legally run them. put you stock h pipe back on, put in new plugs, put on the stock air intake. do not leave a vacuum leak open, that will make you fail for inoperative components.
