Help me put togehter a cheap wheel and tire combo for the track...

Some have said to use an OEM wheel here

Only thing is ... Our original poster has 15' Nitto DR's already

Another thing about the OEM wheel is they are really heavy and the
application stated is track use

Of course ... moving to a 16" tire will all the more add additional weight
which is just one more reason to stick with the 15" tire

Another down side to 16 and 17" DR's is less sidewall height
The taller the sidewall the more flex which can be good for launch

It works that way for slicks and I'd have to think some of that
same benefit ... although much less ... would be the same for DR's

Nitto's run a bit more narrow than other tires

Having said that ... I've seen many run the tire is question on 8" rims
and they have said all was fine.

As for something more sticky than those Nittos ...............

Sure ... You stand a better chance for the opportunity to hear ... "BANG"

I'd just find a light weight Weld wheel and go set some low sixty foots with the 15" Nittos you now got

the second part of the original post seems to indicate that those are what he is thinking about getting. i think he has the waffles and no tires

I run 5+yr old 26X10.5X16 ET streets on old waffle wheels on my car and I have been in the mid 1.6's on them consistently. It was the cheapest way i found to get a sticky tire on my car at the time. Someday I plan to get a set of 15" bogarts to match my front skinnies, but at >$700 for the pair it'll be a while.

I currently have no track tires. Just some worn down Sumitomo 315's which are my daily tires.

And ive decided to use my stock waffles. So my question to you. Who makes the widest drag radial that wouild fit on it? I found some M/T ET streets, but I have only been able to find 255's. I was hoping for 275's. Do the BFG's run in 275 for a 16 in rim?

get 4 donut tires weld two together for each side, then bolt them on then youll look like a dualie. then youll have four wheels for traction. it would look funny though.

Eric how often do you go to the track? Do you really wanna spend 300+$ in tires to go to the track 2-3 times a year. Put that money toward a nice upgrade like subframes that you get the benifit of all the time, or an intake manifold

255's are plenty of width for you combo, and plus noone makes a 275 width drag tire in a 16" diameter. Just get a pair of 255/50/16 MT ET Radials. They'll be alot more user friendly than a slick, and just about as grippy.

My 16" ET Streets are def a little loosey goosey above 50mph, and ive got alot stiffer suspension than you do.

Right now I am in the process of redoing my suspension. That will come before the wheels unless I find a deal on some that I cant pass up. And I dont go to the track that often. but I want to start going more. If I had a set of tires for the track I would go more because I wouldnt be drstroying my street tires. lol

after my hci im doing brakes and suspension also
