Help! Mustang will start but then dies (have cobra killer kit)

I had my car on the interstate, and gunned 3rd gear, but then when i went to shift to 4th, i heard like a spraying sound sorta of. The car will crank over, it just won't stay running or idle at all. I have a 99 Gt with the cobra killer kit (mongoose kit). I recently made a 5 hour trip to a friends house in Mooresville, NC, the night before and everything was fine. Now today this happened. I'm about to pull the plugs after the car cools off, but what do you guys think it could be? Could i have damaged a piston or something? We can keep it running by giving it throttle, but it won't idle. The vac gauge stays at 0, the fuel pressure says 40psi. Thanks for any help or ideas.

yea check vacuum lines , boost may have blew one off , also , unhook the boost gauge and blow off valve at engine and see if it starts , sounds definitely like a vacuum leak . spraying sound was probably the engine sucking air from the leak , when it starts and runs does it run smooth or is it jumping or missing ?

It seems to be smooth. When we do this, i put my hand at the tailpipe and i can smell gas. I don't know if this means anything or not?

you should smell gas , that is normal , if its smooth when you rev it up im sure your pistons should be fine , if you are reading 0 vacuum , then im sure its just a vacuum line loose somewhere , find it and fix it , put some weatherstrip adhesive on the line where its loose so it doesnt happen again . im sure it will be fine , just get out the flash light , get your friend to keep it running and listen for it sucking air till you find the leak

Check all the hoses near the plenum and TB...I had it happen to me once at the track...it would start but wouldn't idle unless I revved it...I found a hose had come off and reconnected and it was all good to go.

Do you have a SES light?

What hose came off that u reconnected? I checked all the hoses and spark plugs, there is no SES light. What else could it be?

Don't know what the hose name is called....what I did to find it though was to have my friend get in the car...rev it and I would listen for air excaping in the engine bay...try that.
