Help needed getting tko-600 in....

Whats up guys, whats the secret in getting the trans mount aligned with the cross member? I almost can pull it over using a big screw driver on the side, but i cant get the bolts in. I was thinking about taking the cross member down, putting in some studs in the trans mount, then using a jack on the cross member to pull it into position. If i can get my hands on grade 8 studs, can i just use those? I guess if i get it aligned that way i can always take one out at a time and put the bolts in.

Anyway, let me know if this is a good idea or any other ideas you might have.

i was just talking to a guy on here about the tko trannys and what i needed i noticed he got a offset trans mount this might be y.
i think if u force it in there it might throw the alignment for the driveshaft off. instead of striaght it would be cocked to the side.

also might put stress on the trow out bearing if it has more pressure to one side of it.

just some thoughts i dont know how much it is off so just thought i would tell you.

I mean its less than .5" off before i start pullin on it.

I got a new poly trans mount if that matters.

I will investigate the off set trans mount though.....

Try loosening the motor mount nuts. That might be enough to get it there.

Thats what i tried doing, i just loosened the big nut on the bottom side on each side of the motor. Maybe i will try the smaller ones that go into the block too

yeah i just mounted my TKO-500, you need an offset mount i think its the one from the 96-98 cobras, but if you wait a few hours when i get back under the car i can get you the part number. It will be just off with the stocker like a half inch or so this offset move it almost an inch furhter back so it will be perfect. After i eat lunch and get back under there ill write down the part number and put it in here.

Is it a energy suspension piece or a stock mount?

Nate, you put your engine back in? Why didn't you put the engine and trans in as one?

Did you try spining the crossmember around?It's offset just a little bit and needs to go in a certan way.When I put in my TKO 500 I used a new urethane mount that was for a 79-95 5.0L.I had the same problem where the holes looked lined up but the bolts wouldnt go in.I spun the crossmember around and then the bolts went in.

I did put it in as one...im trying to bolt the trans mount onto the cross member now. And yea...i TOOK THE MOTOR BACK APART. It was impossible to get the headers in the car while putting the motor in...the 351 is just too big. Then they still wouldnt go in with JUST THE SHORTBLOCK! I will be giving Accufab a call to chew them out...George told me the steering rack does NOT go through the headers. Well, after spending a whole weekend banging and scratching teh headers all up, the steering column DOES go through and you have to take it apart to get them on. Now its finally coming together

Well i spun it 180* already, im pretty sure, but i will try it again.

That blows!

You could also pull the crossmember out and elongate the holes to make the mount fit. Just measure and mark where it needs to be and cut or even drill a new hole. Unfortunatly this stuff happens and you have to make it work.

That sucks about your custom headers not fitting how you were told.

Man o man, they are lucky they finally went it. I will still be giving them some "words of advice" for their product. Now that they are in...seems like they will fit great. I still gotta get the heads back on and the rest of the motor

I hate doing ***** twice when its not my fault .

You took the heads off? Geez! If so, you need new gaskets. You can't torque them down again.

Yea i already took care of that The only way the headers were gonna fit was to take it back off

Another question, after talking with some guys on the corral, im confused on when a 1/4" spacer is needed. Is it only needed when using a stock type of transmission mount? I am using a poly mount that includes a spacer of some type, so im not sure.

What do u guys think?

Did you get that mount from 5.0 resto?That's where I got my urethane mount from and it didnt come with a spacer.I would say you don't need the spacer but I'm not a 100% sure.I'm curious to see what other replies you get on this.

I got the mount from Summit. Its for all 5.0's so im assuming maybe on the older models you need the spacer and on ours(stock setup) you dont. So this is maybe the spacer that you need and no further actions need to be taken to space it upwards.

And to save money, im gonna just make the slots in the cross member a tad bit longer and a hair wider. Does anyone see anything bad about this? Its not off much at all and i would hate for my new mount to go to waste.

Who gave you that wonderful idea? That should work just fine. I would also clean the Xmember up and paint it afterwords.

How close are we to running?
